Insurance not wanting to cover CNM

Has anyone had trouble with your insurance not covering a midwife?  I'm being told I will be 100% responsible for all charges even though they show up online as in network. I'm so mad. 

I've emailed my doula and she said she didn't think they could legally refuse coverage. I guess I'll be fighting insurance now. Thankfully the midwife office has been very helpful and supportive.

  • You're in Texas, right?  Here is the law surrounding midwives in your state.  Texas does not require Medicare reimbursement for midwifery care so it's doubtful that they would require it of insur

  • I will still be delivering in a hospital. I appreciate the information if anyone has any I'd love it. I'm not quite sure exactly what to say to insurance company or how to approach this.

  • Have you contacted your CNM to see how they get around this? My birth center is familiar with my insurance company and knows the tricks for billing them since they are out of network.
