Tubal IUI?

Hey everyone! I just had my follow up appointment today to IUI #6 that we did on Thursday. He just did an ultrasound to make sure that I had ovulated, prescribed me my progesterone for the next 10 days and checked my lining. He also wanted to talk about the next steps if in fact this one doesn't take. I actually respect him for that because let's face it, with five failed IUI's the odds really aren't in our favor. He said with my being 28 I was still very "young" and that he isn't quite ready to hop into IVF with me just yet. He said that if in this fact this one doesn't take he would like to try a tubal IUI (T-AIH is what they refer to in their office). He said that it not only puts the sperm in the uterus but also up through the fallopian tubes so it gets it as far as it possibly can go and is right there when the egg releases.

 

I have never heard of a tubal IUI so I will definitely be researching it today. Just wanted to see if anyone here had experience with one? I'm hoping it's nothing like my HSG as far as pain goes...Sad

9/2011 referred to RE. All blood work normal and DH's SA=normal results
11/2011 HSG=both tubes clear
One natural (monitored) cycle of Clomid, 50mg 2/2012= BFN
Getting ready for first IUI, 3/2012 received orders to Japan! (postponed IUI)
5/2012 Moved to Japan, fought Tricare for months over referral (no fertility treatment on our military base) for Japanese RE out in town!
8/2012 Started seeing new RE
9/2012, post coital test= hostile cervical fluid, (finally) moving on with first IUI!
9/29/2012 IUI #1+trigger= BFN
10/27/2012 IUI #2+100mg Clomid CD5-9+trigger= BFN
11/28/2012 IUI #3+100mg Clomid CD5-9+trigger= BFN
12/28/2012 IUI#4+100mg Clomid CD5-9+trigger=BFN
2/1/2013 IUI#5+injectables+trigger=BFN
3/2013 IUI#6+injectables+trigger=???

    I've never heard of that, but now I want to learn more about it also. It does sound like it could be painful though. I'd be interested to hear if any of the other ladies have done this.

    Thank you! My husband was shocked that he even brought it up at this appointment. He basically thinks the Dr. is saying this one is a no-go. I told my DH that I actually appreciate the insight because although he is cheering for us he isn't sugar coating

    I've never heard of a tubal IUI, but I'm pulling for your IUI #6! I agree with you- I think it's nice when the RE is forward thinking. It's not that he's saying that this IUI won't work, but he's giving you options for moving forward.

    5/13 IVF #1: Follistim, Menopur, Ganirelix, 10R/4M/4F, ET of 2, 5 cell and 4 cell, no frosties = BFN
    12/13 IVF #2 = November / December 2013. Microdose Lupron Protocol: 15R/6M/6F, Froze all 6 due to high E2 and P4
    FET 1: Jan 22, 2014 of one 4AB blast and one 3BB blast (3 blasts on ice!)
    BFP on HPT 4dp5dt, Beta #1 9dp5dt: 310, Beta #2 11dp5dt: 899
    First u/s on 2/17/14: TWINS!!!!! both w/HBs of 114 at 6w3d, HBs 150 and 152 at 7w5d

    I've never heard of a tubal IUI but my RE's office said their IUIs drop off at the base of the tubes. I guess it might be a little further than that?

    DX: Unexplained
    6 Failed IUIs (Clomid and Gonal F).  
    IVF #1 began August 2013- BC, 4 days of Estrace, stimmed with Gonal F and Menopur, Ganirelix, 9R 5M 5F, Medrol and Doxycycline, 5 day transfer of 2 early blastocysts- good quality, Progesterone, Estrace, and baby aspirin, BETA on 9/20 BFN,   IVF #2 began September 2013, stimming with Gonal F (higher dose) and Menopur, Ganirelix, 18R 14M 9F with ICSI, 5 day transfer of 2 BBs one was starting to hatch, 2 frosties: 1  BB and 1 AC, BETA on 10/21, BFN BETA was a 5- chemical 
    Getting some more testing and trying to figure out what the issue is before FET in December, started acupuncture on 11/10, RLP and some other BW nothing major to report except slightly high Prolactin. Prolactin was slightly high when I started with my RE and I already had an MRI which was Neg.  Endo biopsy=negative.  WTF is wrong with us???
    12/18/13 FET of 1 BB and 1 AC.  Hoping for a miracle.  Beta 12/26 Low BETA-8 2nd BETA 5- chemical
    After 3 failed transfers IDK where to go from here.  Still no real answers as to why this isn't working.  Getting a second opinion in February and looking into immune testing.  
    2/14- NEW RE- Immune testing showed a partial dq alpha match with DH- On prednisone and did intralipids prior to transfer.  3/14 Lupron, gonal f, menopur, HGH.  ER 15 mature all 15 fertilized!  5dt of an early blast grade 1 and an expanded blast grade 2.  BETA on 4/21.  1 grade 2 embryo frozen
    BETA #1 59 BETA #2 148 BETA #3 283 BETA #4 2,783! US at 6w2d shows 1 bean measuring right on track! HR 121.  US at 8w3d measuring on track HR 177. Released form my RE.  EDD 12/28
