When did your toddler start listening?

DD is 20 months. I'm curious when other's children really started listening.
She listens fine when its something that she is ok with....like when I ask her to get a book, give hugs and kisses, help clean up, etc.
But she does not listen at all when I ask her to sit on the chair instead of stand, not to climb on top of the toilet, not to sit on the dog, etc. Basically all the stuff that I would prefer she not do mostly for safety reasons...if that makes sense. I've asked, tried distraction, tried getting her to do something else instead.
I know that kids are made to test the limits, and that she's still learning what is ok and not ok. So when does it start getting a little better? When did you feel like you stopped saying "no" all the time....or maybe you still do?! ;

Once he turned 2 it got easier. He seems to really want to be a "people pleaser" right now.
I've heard 3 is rough though so I am not anticipating this lasting long.
my son was really young--probably around 1.5. he's just a people pleaser by nature though so i think it's more temperament vs parenting.
my daughter is much tougher. two was definitely a turning point especially since she started actually underst
