Pre-School and Daycare

How many days a week does your 3 yo go to preschool?

My dd was in daycare so she's used to being in school all day.  We switched her to preschool and she goes 3 days a week as a 2 year old.  The 3 year old program has both a 3 day a week program and 5 day.  I assumed they always go to 5 days but the teacher said most do the 3 day.  Just curious what the norm is for your school.

Re: How many days a week does your 3 yo go to preschool?

  • DD only goes 2 mornings/week. That was the norm here for all the programs I looked at, except one based in a daycare that had preschool program each morning. At that site you could do anywhere from 2 to 5 mornings/week.

Next year, she will go three mornings/week to the 4 year old preschool program (we still don't have regular 4K in my district, which is OK with me!).

  • The preschool the girls will eventually attend is 2 days for 3yo (T/TH) and 3 days for 4yo (M/W/F). We don't plan to send them until their 4yo year, so they will go right into 3 days.

  • My DD was in daycare full time until September when I quit my job. Then she started going to preschool 2 days a week for 2.5 hours. That's what her school offers for 3 year olds. She'll go 3 days a week for 2.5 hours for the 4s preschool next year.

  • Is it part of the daycare program? At our past daycare, the preschool program was just incorporated into the morning part of the day. So at 2yo and 3yo, DD1 was in the preschool room full time. She then went to our district's 4K program 5 days/week (half days) and was bussed back to daycare in the afternoons.

Now I'm mostly a SAHM. DD2 is 2 yo and in preschool 2 days/week through the YMCA. I think we're going to do the YMCA's 3 yo program next year, which is only 2 days/week. We'll just supplement with additional classes. I would prefer 3-4 days/week at 3 yo.

  • My daughter goes 2 mornings a week. I would have loved for her to go three mornings but it's expensive. I always assume the only 3 year olds going 5 days are in daycare.

  • DD goes to a Montessori school 5 days.
  • DS went 2 days at 3, and 5 days at 4. DD misses the Sept 30th cutoff, so she will go 3 days at 3 [almost 4] and 5 days at 4 [almost 5].

  • 5 mornings a week.
  • DD is in a full day 5 day a week, 3yr old class. School is 8am-2:50pm. It's a pre-k through 8th grade private school. DH and I both work full time, so we need full time school for DD, but I'd say 95% of her classmates have SAHMs and they're still there all day (mostly I think because a lot of them have older siblings who are in school there all day as well. The school does also offer a 3 day a week morning 3yr old class and a 3 day a week afternoon class as well.

  • Our preschool is through the school district.  They go 4 days a week for regular ed kids and 5 days a week for special ed kids.  I thought this was a lot, but my DS loves it and has progressed so much this year.  It's a really good program and so happy our school district offers this type of program.

  • Dd1 is 4 and she goes 2 days a week for 2 1/2 hours. We were unable to get her in last year. Our school still only offers 1/2 day kindergarten and she will start this fall.

  • Our boys are in Montessori which is 5 mornings a week. Since they started in January they have missed at least a day a week though. Partially due to illness and some because I miss them. I work odd shifts and a few times if they went to school I wouldn't have seen them for the entire day so I kept them home. I had intended to just do a 3 day a week program but really liked this Montessori school and once they are in the primary program they only offer 5 day.

My son that did a church based preschool program went 2 mornings a week for the 3s program and 3 mornings a week for the 4s.

My middle son went to the town collaborative preschool for speech and he went 4 mornings or technically 4 afternoons a week.

And my youngest is going to the same preschool as my middle son and will be going 4 mornings a week!

But 2 and 3 mornings per week is normal for our area if you have a parent or nanny home with the kids... otherwise it is very expensive in our area.

  • My kids did a preschool that was based at the daycare so they went full time 5 days a week and most kids at the center did the full time thing.  The center did a great job of adding in the academic stuff while continuing with the social skills stuff and of course, it was play based which is the way to go at that age in my opinion.

  • The common preschools for our location (Florida) is mostly 5 day a week (18mo+) 7 hours a day.  I have looked around - a total of 10 schools within a 10mi radius of my house

We finally found a preschool which is two hours long, 2 Days a week.  Its quite small, and in high demand.  I'm super happy we found it :)
