when do you use your double stroller ?

DS1 is 2 and DS2 is 10days old. I figure I have some time before venturing out and needing to cart both around so I've been researching double strollers. I'm curious though when people find the need for them the most. I don't want to spend 300 up and only use it once. Is it worth it? I'll be off work until August so I'll be home with the boys a lot.
