HSG follow-up: Mild Cramping Day 2 after HSG?

Another newbie question. EDIT: you guys can disregard this as I answered my own question with a bit of research.Embarrassed Typical Newb. Feel free to ignore.

I just had my HSG yesterday morning. I took everyones' advice from here and took my prescribed antibiotics as well as a 400 mg Ibuprofen before going to the office. I wish I had dosed up on the Ibuprofen though, because I definitely felt the dye and it was bad. Crying

Everything else, from the speculum to the catheter insertion was uncomfortable, but normal considering the procedure. I experience a great amount of pain when they injected the dye, the more she did the worse it got. For me it was not like Cramps at all, but a pain in a place that I had never actually felt pain down there before (and I say this as someone who has pretty bad cramps and routinely does NOT medicate for the pain).

My doc was able to complete the procedure, but it made me think that I've likely got something going on there, either blockages or other obstructions. She said everything was okay, but that she did see some irregular vascularization.

I felt okay the rest of the day, so I did go to the gym and slightly overdid it. Now today, I am having some mild early period type cramping, and I didn't even have this type yesterday. I am also still spotting, but extremely lightly.

Could it be the effect of my workout? Should I be concerned and call my RE? Since there is the possibility of infection after this procedure I'm kind of freaking myself out. This is not the right time in my cycle to be cramping.

  • Uh oh, skipping the gym will be hard! It's like a addiction!! I think if I do go, which I likely will, I will stick to low impact and strength training. Thanks for the reply katyj.

  • I had the same pain. I wanted to tell the DR to stop that I couldn't handle it. Thank goodness it only lasted a minute, but good news my tubes were clear! I'm sorry it hurt so bad, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought it was the worst thing in
