I need to hear from voices of experience! We are flying to Maui (yay!) when DD is 10 months.
Should we bother bringing a beach tent? I thin it would be great to have to keep DD out of the sun and more comfortable. But I don't want to be that lone family on the beach with one.
Should we bother lugging our heavy Bob stroller? Other stroller option is our super lightweight travel stroller.
Another option is a carrier: we have a framed backpack style that does have nice compartments to hold things or we have an ergo which of course takes up much less room but doesn't have much in the way of compartments.
I'm sure we'll take one stroller and one carrier - the question is which ones? I hope to do a lot of walking in whcih case Bob is better. But man than thing is a bear to travel with. Which is why I'm leaning towards bringing our framed backpack carrier.
Should we lug our travel crib (28 pounds so would be an extra item to check, I assume)? Or just rent one there? I don't think the condo provides free ones.
Oh, and we have the car seat to take too! I don't want to rent one - I've heard too many horror stories! So as a previous minimalist back packer, I really want to think this through and NOT bring items that we won't be very happy we bothered to bring! At the same time we want to be mobile and relatively hands free...as much as infant travel will allow, anyway.
Re: nwmr: well-traveled moms: what to bring on beach vaca with infant?
Stroller: figure out how much walking you'll be doing to decide if its worth it. We don't take a stroller to the beach, but that is mostly due to the fact that we stay at our family house that is beachfront so we don't really need it. (**idea, BO
I'm almost tempted now to not bring a stroller at all. We won't jog, but I would like to do a lot of walking. I don't know if DD can be confortable enough in the back pack carrier, though, for extended periods of time. And that would
As for the actual travel - its going to be a *** to take a carseat, a framed carrier, a stroller and a pnp with 2 parents and a baby to wrangle.
I would suggest looking into rentals for a pnp and a stroller on the islands. I'm sure there
We went to FL when DD was about 14 months. Didn't bring a tent but also we were careful with being out too long, and nap time was during prime sun hours anyway. Use tons of sunscreen! On our next trip to FL, both my kids got a little pink for the first
We drive to the beach but this was our experience when DS was small:
BOB - RENT. Ours was a huge help and DS took his nap in it on the beach every day, which meant we didn't have to go back to the room. We also walke
OK, I had no idea life could be this simple. I can seriosuly rent everything! Free delivery. So I think I'll bring my ergo to carry DD around the airport and her carseat which we'll check at the counter. Then rent stroller, crib
I gate check the stroller and use it in the airport, so I would say take the stroller. For the crib, I am sure the condo can provide one for a fee (or the realtor you booked through can arrange it). We also gate checked the car seat when we
Goodness you all are amazing. Thank you for the advice and please keep it coming!
On second thought I think we will gate check our car seat as on the very last flight we took our luggage didn't make it on the plane and we were left without
HA! This does look like you are carrying an elephant on your back! But I can see how it could be great to have. I'll check with DH to see if he would be willing to carry.

Sounds like it has worked out well...
I was going to say, pushing a stroller on sand is ughhhhh so I wouldn't plan on that anyway, esp w/ only 1 kid (we have twins & went to the beach @ 11 months) and we also bought a beach tent for that trip
