Overpronation/Ortho Stuff

Owl overpronates a good deal, her gait is uneven and her body looks uncomfortably bent, we have an appt with the peds ortho team in a couple weeks and a referral in to PM&R so we are on our way to getting help but I want to see if any of your LO's feet/legs/stance look anything like Owl's and what was done for your LO.

I've already read the FAQ's so I know a lot has been said there about ortho stuff but I would like to have some personal feedback.  Thanks!

  • No personal experience, but I think you are right in getting her looked at.

If she can fit in women sizes you can look at running shoes that are made for stability. You can tell these shoes by looking at the inside. The cushion part of the

  • I looked at your pics because in DDs first IFSP her PT mentioned monitoring for othodics; she mentioned it once briefly before that too. I wasn't sure the right words but my DD has the exact same problem after I looked at your pics. I am not going to s
  • I looked at the pics and agree she should be seen. The left seems worse than the right. Nate's looked like Owl's Left before he was fitted with AFO's. He wore those for about 5 months and we went to a new ortho and he decided that PatiBobs would work just

  • She does look like she could use some assistance to me with the left looking a bit more impacted. If there's no other issues like toe walking, ankle instability, knee hyperextension, or very odd gait not related to the pronation, she can probabl
  • I don't have much to add, except my daughter's left foot looks a lot like OWL's (if not worse than OWL's).  We've been told that when Lily is standing more then we will get orthos.

  • DS2's feet look just like Owl's. He is on his 3rd set of orthotics (due to growing out of each pair). The orthotics are supposed to help keep his feet in a neutral position but whenever he doesn't have his AFOs/SMOs (whatever you want to call them because
  • I'm an EI PT.  It does look like your DD could use some orthotics.  Does she have low tone as well?  I've had good luck with kids using SureStep braces.  They are SMO's but a lot thinner.  They support the arch but still allow for

  • Oh and something that really helped my girls build up their strength without risk of injury was aquatherapy.  My oldest is now just in swim lessons but she gets a great work out and multiple PTs have told me that's the best thing for her.
  • DAFO - dynamic ankle foot orthotic - could be SMO or AFO

    AFO - ankle foot orthotic

    SMO - supra-malleolar orthosis (orthotic)

Sure Step - a specific brand of SMO for low tone/pronation (though I think the brand also offers so

  • My sons feet look the same more on side than the other.

He has received PT and wears a brace. His foot doctor sees him yearly and keeps an eye on his development of legs feet and hips. He just received his second pair of AFOs. His f
