December 2010 Moms

What do you do...

when you are deathly ill and your spunky, energetic, and ornery toddler is juuuuust fine? I took a sick day today, and so far I've spent it chasing Miles around the house, trying to keep him busy and out of trouble. Every time I head to the bathroom to pop some sudafed, I get sidetracked by pulling M out of the toilet, trying to keep him out of closets, or cleaning up his latest mess. I'm starting to think going to work would have been more relaxing!

I would have taken him to the sitter, but his sitter lives out by my work, and we have a 35 minute commute. That would give me two hours of driving by the time I took him and came back home this morning then went to pick him back up tonight.

  • Honestly? Lots of tv.

Luckily our sitter is nearby so if I got really sick I could still take Reese, but whenever she's home sick (which is usually once a month because she tends to spike a fever over even a basic cold and then can't go to dayca

  • Ugh, sorry that's happening!  I do call my mom though and she takes him away. Which is another good reason to keep looking for those jobs near your family haha!

Feel better soon! Can you put on a movie for him so you can stay in one place fo

  • Honestly, I would have driven the 25 minutes to sitter.  If I want to get better I have to sleep, so it would have been worse the lose of 2 hours and teh gas just for the peace.

But, I had tons of weekends where that wasn't an option so we

Our daycare is by our house, but when I was sick with B over a weekend I went with some activities that tied him down - like painting and playdoh.

I hope he takes a long nap today so you can rest too.

  • Sorry Nicole!  I really hope you can get some rest once M goes down for a nap.  I think I'd probably do the drive too next time.  Otherwise, don't feel bad about the tv!

  • I'm going to ditto the PPs that said take the kiddo to the sitter...mine is about 10 minutes away, and when I've been out sick, I've ALWAYS taken him/them to DC.  Those 6 or so hours alone are well worth it to me!  So sorry you're feeling like c

  • When I am really sick and my guy is full of energy, I try to move into different rooms of the house every so often.  A new environment and new toys help for a bit.  I also use TV and games/apps on my ipad.  He is really into games now so th

  • Sorry Nicole!  That's tough.  I'd take him to the sitter anyway.  And/or watch lots of movies.
