Changing Table by a Window?

The nursery furniture is being delivered today. Our nursery is pretty small and there are only two possibilities for the location of the changing table.

1. By the window

2. Behind the door

The location by the window is much more appealing, but I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on if it is safe. I personally do not see how a newborn could open the window while on the changing table (it's not like I would leave her on the changing table unattended), but I wanted to make sure there wasn't another safety hazard I am missing.

Thoughts?

Re: Changing Table by a Window?

  • Ours is under the window, too...I personally cannot think of anything a baby can do to make it unsafe for the whole 2 min they might be on the table

  • Make sure that if you have blinds the cords are not accessible!
  • Ours is infront of a window. And our windows are 5ft tall 5ft wide. I don't feel like its a safety issue at all. If it was a crib I would think differently. I think baby will enjoy seeing outside when you lay them on the changing table.

  • I don't think safety is an issue, but your window might get smudgy

  • Ours is under the window and I think it's fine, especially for a newborn.  The only issue we have sometimes now is that DD will pull on the blinds and has bent them but that happened when she was like 14 months.

  • I'm wondering what's the problem with having it under the window? Am I missing something?

I had to move DD's out of her room recently because she figured out how to climb it, but she's 2.

  • The window would be fine, just watch the blinds when LO is old enough to grab. I got a small little stick on hook and hung the stings up out of reach. I mean if you think about it your going to be with the baby the whole time, your not going to leave them

  • A newborn will never be able to open the window on his/her own. The two safety issues that I can think of is the cord and someone peeking into the window. So as long as you keep the cord out of reach and the blinds pulled down, I think you'll be alright!

  • I don't think the concern is the actual window, but the window coverings.  Blinds and drapes.  They crib has major warnings that it should not be near a window due to risk of strangulation. But we put our changing table there because he won't be
