This might sound stupid and I'm sorry if it comes across that way but I'm trying to help my sister out. A couple that she works with is adopting a baby and she would like to buy them a gift but doesn't want them to know ahead of time. I told her I imagined that they would probably still have registered somewhere and to maybe check the "standard" places like BRU or Target for registries. So my question is this...did you or do you plan on registering for baby items?
Re: Quick Question
We have/ will be registering. I think the suggestion for a gift card is always helpful, or if your sister knows of anything specific her friend has mentioned getting (like DH aunt bought us a mattress because we are using their crib). That way she sould get them something that they need and could give it to them before they pick up their baby.
Not a stupid question, and very thoughtful of your sister.
We have decided to not have a shower nor register for gifts until we have our newborn. We are however decorating the nursery now with gender neutral and purchasing immediately needed items. This is a special thing for DH and I to do as a couple. After, the baby is born and brought home we will register and have a 'welcome to the family' party.
In our email to friends and family announcing that we are 'expecting' without a due date we explained to them about domestic newborn adoption as well as asked them to kindly NOT send us gifts or schedule a shower. We know the chances of our match not working out is 20% and we just don't want to have a lot of baby-specific gifts and the such until everything is finalized. Besides, it will be that much more special for everyone to buy gifts for a baby with an identity :-)
