Little one is in daycare...I think I may have done it too early

Hi Everyone:

It has been a minute since I have posted. Since I have returned to work, it seems like when I get home, I am just too tuckered out to do anything. And I have been so busy training my new Boss, doing his job and my own that I hardly have time to sneak on to even lurk. But I am sneaking on today?

When I first returned to work, my LO had a babysitter looking after him in her home. We both knew it was temporary as she was looking for full time work. She was my sitter for an entire month and I LOVED HER!!! Well, February 8th, she started a new full-time job (she had been out of work for almost two years). With no other options, I had to put LO in daycare.

His pedi was reluctant but since he had his four month shots and three rounds of Synagis, she granted ?permission? for him to go into daycare but let me know that ?Visits to see her may happen more often?. She wasn?t kidding. LO?s 1st day of daycare was February 8, 2013? February 12th, he had missed his first day and I had taken off of work because he had developed this cough and he had a number of spit-up spells that were of the projectile kind. So, I call, I see the nurse and NP. They do the RSV screen and it came back negative. The chest cold, congestion didn?t really slow him down, he was acting like his self somewhat. They put him on breathing treatments, told us to reduce his formula to help his mucus and give him pedialyte to help.

On February 26, we go get his 4th Synagis shot. The nurse at the Pulmonogy Office (where he gets the shots) said his lungs sounded clear but he was very nasally, gave me another prescript for breathing treatment and for some cough syrup cause he still had a cough for five days. It had seemed to help? except the cough has returned. He sounds like he is trying to get the mucus out but he just cant. I suck his nose out all the time and his nose has become raw from me doing it so often.

And then I call to check on him at daycare this afternoon and talk to the afternoon ?teacher?. I had noticed that during the day, he doesn?t take much formula and he wants the bottle kinda sporadically (on his sheet it says 2 oz at 135pm and then 1.5 oz at 2pm). She stated that it seems like he is having a hard time catching his breath when he is eating and then he gets disinterested. BUT at home, he has no issues taking 4-5 oz. Sometimes I have to pace but very rarely.

To wrap up this long story? I feel like I jumped the gun with putting him in daycare. At that point he was four months actual, 2 months adjusted (as of today he is five months actual, three months adjusted, will turn 6 months on the 25th). I wish my new boss would have had just let me go like he said he wanted to (long story there) but at this point in time we can?t be just a one income household (can you say medical bills). I feel so guilty because I just want him to get better but it seems like with daycare he just cant?

Thanks for listening.

I was wondering what happened to you but assumed no news was good news.  No advice, just sympathy for LO being sick.

We had been just fine until this... And I have been wanting to come on and post about his milestones and stuff but like I said really tuckered out and a laptop that had been giving me the blues LOL

     And thank you.

Aw, I'm sorry he's been sick so much! DD started daycare in Jan, and she's been sick off and on since with minor illnesses. I'd also be concerned about his eating. Are they offering him a bottle every 3-4 hours or do they wait until he acts hungry? DD can get distracted by all the activity at her daycare so she gives few signs of hunger. The teachers offer her a bottle if it has been 4 hours since she ate last. It is difficult; wish I could have taken a year of maternity leave like they have in Canada!

The instructions I told them is read his cues which is normally 3-4 hours and do not go longer than four hours.

I talked to the nurse at my pedi's office and she said I had been doing everything right at home. The suctioning of his nose, the humidifier, the breathing treatments. She said that with the congestion that sometimes they can get tired because of the suck, swallow, breath. It may be easier with us at home in the morning and in the evenings before bed is because he has had a chance to rest and that he may even be a bit more relaxed since it is me feeding him...

I would have loved to take more time off, especially since most of my time was used up while he was in the NICU...
