Let me start off with I've never been a smoker, so I do not understand the appeal or addiction to cigarettes. I am also very passionate about raising DS with two non-smoking parents, so I tend to get impatient with DH about his failure to quit. He's been promising for almost 2 years that he would, and just kept putting it off until we finally agreed on a deadline of March 1st. I'm realistic enough not to expect him to quit cold turkey, but he hasn't put in any effort over the past two weeks. Maybe I'm jumping the gun because it has only been 2 weeks, but like I said, I'm impatient. I just get so frustrated because I want him to be healthy, I don't want him to smell like smoke, and especially don't want DS to grow up thinking that it's okay. Plus, it's bad enough that almost his entire family, who we are surrounded by and and see on a regular basis, smoke, as do every single one of his friends.
I've asked him to chew the gum when he wants to have a cigarette at least half of the time, to tell his family and friends that he's trying to quit so they can try to be supportive (or at least not ask him to have a cigarette with them), and to come up with ideas of ways that I can support him and help him quit. All he's done is chewed 2 or 3 pieces of gum in the last two weeks and hasn't told anyone he's quitting, despite seeing family and friends on several occasions, and also hasn't given me any ideas. It's driving me crazy and I just want to yell at him every time he has a cigarette. So, here's where I need help -
Has anyone helped a SO quit smoking, or quit themselves? Tips? Strategies? Ways to keep calm?
Sorry this is so long and probably coming off as crazy. I really do just want to help him live a healthier, longer life.
Re: Helping DH quit smoking
I have no real strategies, I'm like you--never smoked--but I see people around me struggle. I guess it's like any addiction. Like for me, it's food. I love it. So "dieting" for a lack of a better term just is sooooo hard.

The best advice I ever got was from a woman who used to smoke a pack a day. She said to me, "One day, I just asked myself, 'Is this the kind of lifestyle I want to have?'" Such a simple question, but ultimately that's it, right?
<It has been a long struggle with us!My DH had a really difficult time quitting. He quit the first time when we were TTC, we had a stressful incident at the end of my pregnancy and he started again until DS was born, then quit again for almost a year. H
Thanks for all of the advice! He has tried both Chantix and hypnosis in the past, the Chantix had awful side effects, so he stopped and hypnosis just didn't work for him. We have talked about the e-cigarette as a possibility, but he doesn't
No idea if my story will help him quit or not, but it's how I (unintentionally) got my dad to quit smoking.

First off, he has to be ready to quit, otherwise, NOTHING will work.
As crazy as it may sound, there is a book that I read that helped me quit smoking. It's called "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. I found it by a
My H quit smoking using the e-cig sold by modern vapor. It's only $60 for a starter pack, so if he failed and started smoking again he wouldn't feel so bad. He had previously balked because he didn't want us to spend money when he wasn't sure it would
