Natural Birth

A natural start in a sea of inductions . . .

Hi Ladies,

On my birth month board there are so many inductions right now.  They are a great bunch of people, and I don't question their personal path at all, but I'm really feeling alone in my past-due-date status.  I am oh-so-barely past due that it doesn't even count yet.

Thankfully, I found a CNM last night (at my kid's capoeira class, of all places!) and she really helped buoy my spirits.  My OB has left town on vacation and so now I'll be "delivered" by just one of the physician's pool people.  I kind of hate that.  I'm having a lot of self-doubt right now, just thinking I don't want to go to the hospital, don't want just any old yahoo messing with my birth and my baby and not feeling so hot.

I am going to email the CNM and ask her if she thinks there is any hope in "switching" to a CNM now, if it is even an option.

What do you think I should do? What would YOU do?  Shoot, if I followed my guts I'd just hunker down at home and have him all alone.  I can't stand it . . .

Sorry for the ramble.  Just lost in a far-away place.  And really darn pregnant.

Thanks,

Cagey

  • My response to you is, "Hey, what do you have to lose??" Nothing, really. If I were in your shoes, I would make some calls and see if there is a CNM who would take me on. I switched from an OB to a CNM at 27 weeks and I am so very glad I did. I know sh

  • Actually, I am so glad you posted for my own selfish reasons of not feeling alone in a sea of inductions. I honestly have been shocked. I don't remember that many for the May 2011 board, but maybe I wasn't paying as close attention. I went with an OBGY

I ended up calling a new OB practice, all women, and went to an appointment! Wonderful doctor, very mom and baby centered, and connected to this great birth center that practices delayed cord clamping, immediate skin to skin,

  • I am on your BMB as well & i have seen it too. I see it everywhere, not just our board. I don't get it! Unless you have a true medical reason; why induce?

I have somewhat of a medical reason & I am still questioning it &

CageyMack - couldn't help but respond when I saw this.  Yes, I have been really discouraged by the casual nature of all the inductions on our BMB!  It's the right choice for many people, but I see/read about so many people who are opting for

  • Does that CNM you talked to do home births?? :)

I do second the doula recommendation of a quick check at available hospital midwives yields nothing. Maybe that CNM would be a resource in finding one.
