C-sections

VENT! So sick of the looks of pity

Hi - I'm mostly a lurker here.  Having my first baby via C-Section in about two weeks because she is breech.  At first I was disappointed and nervous but I'm just so excited now to meet her and feel fortunate that I know ahead of time that I'm having one, rather than getting one after lots of labor.

ANYWAY - I just needed to vent because almost every time I tell someone that I'm scheduled for a C-Section that look at me like I'm a poor wounded animal - rather than the excited first time mom that I am!  Just so sick of getting pity!  I don't feel bad for myself.  I'm ridiculously happy and excited to be having a healthy baby girl in two weeks!  Its like people think having a CS takes away from the fact that its still a BIRTH and I'm becoming a MOTHER!  So frustrating!!!

Re: VENT! So sick of the looks of pity

  • I agree! I got so many "I am so sorry" comments when I told ppl I ended up having an unplanned csection. It made me feel disappointed in how it went rather than be super happy I had a totally perfect and healthy baby.  Someone even said I didnt ac

  • Do not let them get you down. Your Dr knows what is best for you and the baby's health and if a c-section is the safest delivery than that is what it is.

People can be so rude sometimes. Congrats you are almost there :)

  • I do think that some people think that having C isn't a "real" birth.  And that can be hurtful, but I also think that a lot people maybe offer their condolenses to the fact that you have to have major surgery, not that you can't have your baby thr

  • How are you certain you're having a c/s? If you're 2 weeks out your baby still has time to flip. I know women whose babies flipped right before their due date. It is less common after 37 weeks but not impossible.

I'm not saying she will definite

  • I find people comment the most about things they don't understand or did differently.  Passing judgement of any kind helps a person validate and rationalize their own life choices, which is human nature, so I try and think of that when I hear comment
  • I've never had a vaginal birth, so I have nothing to compare it too.

My 2 scheduled csections were AWESOME! I would never take it back, and my recovery was much easier than some people who have had vaginal births.  Just ignore t

  • I've given birth both ways and would take a C/S HANDS DOWN any day of the week.  When I told people about my 3rd child being a planned C/S, I was pretty happy about it.

    - no awful contractions

    - no frantic rush to the hospital
