What does ABA therapy look like?

I realize this may be a silly question, but I would really like to understand .

If an ABA therapist came to my house to work with my almost 4 year old, what would he/she do?

A description of DS follows, but would be OK if you can only answer about ABA wo considering specifics.

Background: DS is not officially on the spectrum, although assessments have shown he has some tendencies that elevate the scores on the evals. He receives OT and PT because of low tone strength and has poor motor skills both fine and gross. He also struggles with some sensory issues. He gets limited speech therapy and is highly verbal.
Our main struggles are with his emotions. Frustrates and angers easily, very rigid thinker, basically has poor coping skills. He is doing really well in school, but I haven't seen great strides at home. I feel like we need help with basic things. How to play well, deal with frustrations and deviations from the norm. Just life, really!

  • I'm not sure if it varies by age, but my little guy was 2 when he started getting ABA at a center and at home - 2 sessions.  At home, there were a lot of what they call "discreet trials".  Basically it's a whole lot of repetition.
