Melting Pot- dumb question

But I'm going to ask it anyway!

I was just looking at the menu for the Melting Pot and noticed that a lot of their fondues have some kind of alcohol mixed into them.  I really want hubs and I go to go there in April for our 5 year anniversary, but I'm concerned about the alcohol.  I've heard mixed things about whether or not the alcohol actually burns out when it's cooked.  And really.. it's just fondue, so is anything really getting "cooked?"  Anyone know about this?

Re: Melting Pot- dumb question

  • I did not know that about the fondues but man do I LOVE the melting pot, holy crap you can just roll out of there in a 7th heaven! I would think bc it's heated it kills the alcohol but not sure.

  • I went to the melting pot with a few pregnant ladies and they ate it. I'm going with it's fine.

  • yes. Because you're not cooking your meat in cheese. Its cooked in a broth.

And that broth is damn hot.

    its definitely getting fully cooked.

And I think you'll be fine. The very small amount of alcohol in it, will cook off.

  • First of all, I hate you for making me want it now lol ....drooling....

Second of all, they pre mix the fondue so I'm assuming you can say "please don't add ....." if you feel uncomfortable about it. Mobile smiley face!

  • I'm sure the amount of alcohol in the fondue is so minimal that even if it wasn't completely cooked out, you'd be fine.
  • If they don't require you to be 21 to eat it, you're fine.

  • Now I wanna go! But to answer your question, there is so little in it, and they bring it to a boil before they add the cheese, it will all burn off. You will be good to go! Enjoy!

  • Thanks ladies! These are the answers I was hoping to get Smile
  • You're good- they put a pretty skimpy shot's worth of alcohol into the entire pot of cheese or chocolate, and even if it doesn't all burn off, there's no way you would get more than half a drink's worth if you're sharing with DH and eat a full half pot

  • This is my absolute favorite restaurant but I worry about cross contaminating the meat while its cooking. My DH and I were just talking about this last night bc our anniversary is also coming up in April. I'm pretty easy going with food rules, but I wor

  • It's fine and its such a small amount of alcohol too. I know two woman that had a beer or glass of wine here and there Nd their babies are super healthy and fine! Plus the heat burns off the alcohol, that's barely in there.

  • Don't worry about the alcohol and if you are concerned you won't know how long to cook your meat, either dump the whole plate in right away and ask the server how long it should cook or avoid it all together and just do the cheese and chocolate package. I

  • I'm curious as to how the Melting Pot makes its cheese fondue if they're only putting a skimpy shot-glass sized bit of alcohol into it.  Alcohol is the liquid base that the cheese is melted into.  Recipes vary but it usually calls for somewhe
