FTM Questions regarding diapers

I need advise on diapers!  I'm curious how many "newborn" diapers you should buy.  I don't want to overbuy and have them leftover.  I know it's probably a guessing game, but apporoximately how many packages did you go thru?  I have bought 3 packages so far, 36 diapers in a package.

Re: FTM Questions regarding diapers

  • Well, we intend to cloth diaper. With that said, it's recommended to have 24-36 Cloth diapers to do laundry every other to every third day.

So, let's say 36 diapers to get through two days = 18 diapers a day (but could be more)

  • I plan on having about 200 on hand for when we bring the baby home. We went through a little more then a box of 80 a week with my DS. He was in them for 6 weeks so we will probably buy more but I don't to have too many just in case.

  • All I know is at the NB class we took she said expect 15 - 18 diapers a day, so that is up to 250 for the first 2 weeks.

  • Ive only bought some size 1 diapers. Ive heard you dont need many newborn ones unless you have a small baby. You get to take a bunch home with you from the hospital too.
  • Thanks everyone for your input.  I didn't want to overbuy.  I'll probably plan on having around 200 available.  I have a feeling LO will be a big baby so I'm sure he won't be in newborn long!

  • We only have a small pack of newborn diapers- I think maybe 36? in the package - and then we have a couple packs of size one leftover from DD. It's hard to know how many you will need in advance in which sizes.

  • as the mother of a boy I can tell you my son would SOAK the front of his diaper when he was a NB. My friends who had girls didn't have this problem as much. We switched to size 1 fairly early. You can always return diapers if they are unopened and switch

  • My first was a larger baby and only used 2 packs of newborn diapers.  This time we are CD'ing right from the start but I did buy 1 pack of NB pampers just in case.

  • We only used size 1 because that's what the hospital used on him. He was born at 8lbs, 5ozs. They were a little big but worked just fine.

  • A friend of mine had her son last month and he was 8.5 pounds. He is still in newborn size at 10 pounds being 5 weeks old.  She said she has gone through 3 Cases.  So i definitely would suggest having at least 2 cases on hand.

  • That is a good start...if you end up with some left over you can always donate them to a woman's shelter. They are always looking for diaper donations, at least in our city.

  • I probably wouldn't buy more newborn size diapers than that.  Our son skipped over the newborn size altogether and went right to 1s and our daughter was in the newborn size for maybe 2 weeks before needing the size 1s.  But, that said, I had &nb

  • DD was 8lbs 6oz at birth and was in NB diapers for about 3 weeks.  Then she was in size 1's forever and then we started CDing.

She went through around 15 diapers a day in the beginning.

  • My kids were in NB size for about a month and a half. But since I knew they outgrew diapers fast when they're that little I would only buy the 20$ box of huggies at target. I don't know how many it brought but it would last about two weeks. Then when they
