WDYT?

Hypothetical situation here.

Say you have 2 kids of the same sex, a little over 2 years apart.

Kiddo #2's first birthday is approaching.

What would you think if, instead of getting a gift for your kid, someone got you a gift for yourself? More specifically, a gift certificate for a movie and snacks (which would also come with babysitting, of course). That would be the only gift you'd receive from that person.

Would you be thrilled because hey, date night! Or would you be miffed because it's supposed to be your child's birthday, not yours?

Also, not sure if it makes a difference, but in this hypothetical scenario, you and your SO both work about 35 hours a week and so the kids are in DC.

Miffed would not be the right word. I would think it was strange for sure. If said child was old enough for the movies,

  • I'm with Mrs. Case. As a first birthday gift, it's not a bad idea.  The kid is likely getting loads of other things and I think it's nice to celebrate the parents too.  For subsequent birthdays I don't think I'd go this route simply because per

  • Still, wouldn't you rather the money went towards your LO? Even if it was something boring like diapers, or maybe for their college fund?

  • We gave our friends son for his birthday tickets to a family fun center...more for the parents but he would get in free. Also was not the only thing we gave him.

I would like movie tickets lol.

  • I think it's really really weird.

It is not my birthday, it is my child's birthday.

If the person is looking to buy tickets to an activity (as opposed to a toy or clothes as a gift), there are other things more suitable than movi
