First time pregnant & terrified of Labor

I know being pregnant is a joyous time but when I think about giving birth it terrifies me. It's my first time being pregnant and I can't seem to stop thinking about the fear of child birth. Sometimes I get panic attacks as my tummy gets bigger and wonder how I'm going to get through labor. Is there any way that I can ease my mind and not be too scared where it consumes my  thoughts &!energy? It seems like other moms are handling it so well and no so scared of labor but rather looking forward to it. I wish I can be that way. Your feedback will help a lot! Thank You!

  • I was kind of like this with my first.  Try your best not to worry, and do your best to have faith that it will all work out okay in the end.

  • Im also scared of labor in a way, at least right now. My sister said that when it comes down to it, you just want the baby out. You dont care about doctors or nurses seeing your lady parts, you will just do anything at that time to meet your baby.

  • Look, it's probably going to suck. Some people do enjoy labor, but it sounds like you are probably not going to be one of them. But you will survive. Just take a minute to think of all the women you know who have been through it and are fine. I'm sure

  • It can be scary but just know that at the end of it all will be the best reward your baby! :

  • There are drugs you can use to lessen the pain. Just remind yourself you have pain management options.
  • Women have been giving birth forever...you can do this. Your body was made to do this. You need to work on letting go of the fear. Even if you have zero interest in natural childbirth, I recommend reading Ina May's Guide to Natural Birth. It is full of

  • I'm a FTM as well. I know labor is going to suck, but it seems the average length will be 12-18 hours. Think back at how quickly the past 18 hours has gone. Our body is going to do what its going to do and all we can do in the meantime is educate ourselve

  • I am a fourth time mom and I will just say get the epidural.   Yes, contractions.feel like bad mentrual cramps but you get through it.   After the epidural you will not feel much pain and your body will do what it supposed to do.

  • Being scared is normal. Really, I found that when I actually got there it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It wasn't pleasant, but I got lucky. All I can say is remember that you get the best prize at the end.

  • Hi!

You're not alone! Good to know you are afraid too~ So women made feel like a wuss and made me feel like I was not tough enough. What I needed was a little comfort in easing my nerves about labor =) hang in there and hope you are enjoying you

  • LOL! Thanks for the encouragement! I actually saw that episode too. It did help me feel a little better. She is tiny and was able to give birth vaginally. Good for her!
  • Hello Anna!

I'm working on trying to ease my nerves by prayer and thinking positive. Your little son is adorable! And you're a beautiful mommy~!

  • Thank you for your response and advice! I am definitely going for the epidermal. You are amazing for having three kids and a fourth on the way! Hope your pregnancy is going well. Take care~ :o)
