Re: ?'s to ask nanny/chid care provider

  • Since someone earlier quoted a post of mine and said "Where's the snark", I was tempted to reply to this post with a suggestion about asking for criminal records of past child abuse.

In all seriousness, I found this to be pretty helpful. GL! I'm super overwhelmed by it, too.

  • Oh! If you plan to CD, ask if they're ok with that, and if they're not, ask why. Some day care providers will not take kids who are CDd.

  • I ~totally~ understand the panic thing.  Really, I do.  It's a huge deal.

We've already decided on our home day care provider (friend of the family, thank God) and know their rates -- $190/week.

The questions I still have to ask are:

    (1)  Do we have to pay them for their vacation time?

    (2)  Do we still have to pay when we're on vacation and our baby isn't in daycare?

I think the answer is generally yes for both questions, but I'm wondering how ours are going to handle it.

Here's a good site about questions to ask...  https://childcare.about.com/od/evaluations/tp/questions.htm

  • Also - and sorry to keep posting but we're in the middle of this too - ask what happens if the provider is sick or is out of town. Do they have a lined-up back-up plan for you, or are you on your own? This may be a good question for the other parents whose kids go there rather than the provider herself/himself.
