Is 'bragging on' a regional thing?

I see people use the phrase 'bragging on' often around the Bump, but never have heard it in real life. I've only heard 'bragging about'. (IE. "I'm bragging on my husband" versus "I'm bragging about my husband"). What do you say? Do you hear both IRL?

  • Maybe it's a southern thing or a generational thing? I've heard it before, mostly from older southern women. I don't hear it that often, though.
  • I say and have always heard it said as "bragging about."  I had not heard anyone saying "bragging on" before TB.

  • So, possibly a Southern thing then? Interesting! I love languages, so I was just wondering if it's a common phrase and I've just been living under a rock or something!

  • Yep, I say "bragging on" and I'm from VA. Since moving to Massachusetts, I've had to learn quite a few new phrases and words, such as "all set" to mean "ready", "put it up" to mean "put it away", "bubbler" which is a water fountain, and the very worst one
