D.C. Area Babies

I'm just exhausted at work.

I know I shouldn't complain since I only have two weeks left, but I am beyond exhausted.  I don't sleep well at night, and the kids are literally draining all of my energy in class every day.  I was teaching my math kids how to use graphing calculators this morning, and about half the class was freaking out simply because it is a new concept.  One kid even cried.  Their hands were in the air the entire time, even when I was explaining how to do it, which is a huge pet peeve of mine.  Save the questions for the end!!  I have no energy to finish the day, and it's only 12:45.  Sad

Re: I'm just exhausted at work.

  • I have no idea how you do it.  I work in a small office, and was exhausted sitting in a chair all day.  You get definite props from me!

  • I agree with RiverPlate, I have no idea how you do it. Just the teaching part without being pregnant seems pretty taxing!! But just keep thinking of that glorious day two weeks from now when you're all done :-) You're almost there!
  • I feel you - I teach alternative school and I'm to the point that EVERY time one of them opens his mouth, I am on the verge of meltdown. I am exhausted - you are my hero right now! I can't imagine how bad I will be at 38 weeks!!!

  • I can't imagine how tired you must be.  I know at the end of the school year I was drained from the heat, lack of sleep and annoying kid behavior and I was 33 weeks.  You're almost there--it will fly by before you know it.

  • Oh, I'm only 35 weeks, not 38. When I said 2 weeks left, I meant that that's when break starts and my maternity leave as well. I just feel like it will be a LONG two weeks. :-/
  • I'm in the same boat as you...teaching while pregnant.  Ugh!  And I have 9 weeks left...Winter break can't come soon enough.  My students are making parenting look less and less desirable.  OOPS!
  • I remember those days!  Although, by the end, I just didn't care that much anymore because I knew that I wasn't coming back.  I guess that's the lucky part about delivering at the end of the school year!

Only two more weeks!  You can do it!

  • Good luck!  I was exhausted at the end too.  I hated the comments I heard "wow, you're still here?!"  "how much time left?!" etc.  I wanted to wear a big sign counting down the days I had left.  I ended up taking a long weekend because I had sciatic nerve problems and the day I came back I think put me in labor.  I was so miserable the whole day and even set through a parent/teacher conference that afternoon.  Luckily I was in labor that night and didn't have to go back :)
  • I remember feeling like that back in March.  I was sooooo done with school and all I wanted to do was sit and that was impossible while teaching kindergarten.  I still feel like that some days this year.  :o)   Just think about the time off you'll have coming up soon to rest for a few weeks before you have the baby.

  • I hear ya! I'm not there yet with this pregnancy since I'm just starting my third tri, but I'm a pediatric occupational therapist and I remember it being hard to constantly be up and down on the floor with the kids, trying to demonstrate things without laying on my stomach (OK, that part I'm already at this time!), and just being so tired walking around the school/clinic, doing evals, handling stimming behavior (autistic kids), etc. Hang in there!

  • Aw, hang in there!!  It will probably go faster than when you're home not working waiting for baby to show up.   I stopped working at 39 weeks, she was born at 42 weeks, and I swear those were the longest 3 weeks of my life.
  • I also don't know how you do it!  I have a busy job, but it is nothing like teaching and I have been exhausted all week.  I even got weepy at my desk yesterday.  Good luck getting through these last two weeks!

  • Yes, props to you!!!  Teaching is hard work for a non-pregnant person (I used to be a public middle school music teacher) - doing it in third trimester must be exhausting!

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • I had my son in September and I totally understand how you are feeling, I was two weeks early and I remember my last day at work... I was extremely tired every day.  I was pooped by the time I got up, got ready for work and walked out the door!  Amazing how that little one sucks all the energy out of you :o)  Once you give birth, ohhhh, it will be such a relief, but then you will be exhausted!  Get your sleep and be ready to enjoy your baby doll.  I did have a huge spurt of energy the weekend before I had my baby.  Lean on your family and friends right now, they will be more than happy to help you with anything, especially if they have kids.  Good luck.
