Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby rolling in crib, crying

Hey all - my 6-month-old has been, for the past week, rolling on to her tummy as soon as I put her in her crib. Crying ensues. I go in, flip her back, she flips back to her tummy immediately, cries again. A couple of times I've just left her to cry and she eventually falls asleep on her tummy and is fine...but she can't seem to flip back to her back (even thought she's perfectly capable of doing so on her mat)...so I feel bad forcing her to stay on her tummy...Also, I thought letting her CIO once or twice would help the issue, but no, she still starts to wail as soon as I put her down and she flips onto her stomach. Has anyone else gone through this? Did you keep flipping them back until they figured it out on their own? Or did you let them CIO? Thanks!

  • Oh we struggled with this for almost 4 months! He is now 8 months old and finally is comfortable sleeping on his belly (in fact, he prefers it now). He was in the Magic Sleep Suit for a while, which helped alot.

  • OK, thanks, guys. She was in the magic sleepsuit and it was great but we decided to wean her off it. She's been totally fine for the most part but obviously more mobile, hence the tummy sleeping. Will just wait for it to pass!
  • When our dd did this I left her on her tummy and patted her back. I now always lay her on her tummy for naps and she sleeps way better. She can flip back if she wants.
