LO had her appointment at the NICU follow up clinic yesterday. I explained to dr all that has been going on and our struggles with feeding/reflux/general fussyness and wondering whether it's colic, reflux, digestion issues or a combination of everything. Since LO's weight gain has been slow and her total volume of intake for the day is low for her age and weight, Dr wants us to mix neosure to 24 cal. For reflux she wants us to try rice cereal 2x a day for 1 week and then if situation doesn't improve she'll prescribe zantac. So LO basically spit up whole 2 oz of rice cerealed formula yesterday and this am. I emailed dr this am and asked if we can start zantac now. I'm waiting for a response.
DH and I are both so worried. We feel so helpless right now. It feels like as time keeps ticking by every time she spits up or has a day with low formula intake is just hurting her as far as gaining weight. Ok... vent over.
Re: Frustrated with Reflux
Thanks! I was worried we were going too crazy and we're first time parents but I really feel like we need to elevate things. Thankfully my insurance does not require a referal so I just scheduled an appointment with a ped gi specialist. First aval appt isn't for 3 weeks but I feel a little better knowing that we have it in case things don't settle down.
My DD also has reflux.
Due to the pain associated with reflux, she has feeding aversion which developed at 3 months old and has manifested as very fussy eating (unless she's sleeping) and a low ounce count given what her intake should be for age and weight. We add Enfacare to my BM to mix it to a total of 26 calories per ounce. She has an average of 18 ounces a day. She's now about 12.5 pounds at just over 6 months adjusted.
We tried zantac, but are now on prevacid. I think it's a bit better now. She's not fussy about her eating nearly as much, but we really only feed her now when she's asleep.
We are working with a SLP for her feeding aversion and if things go downhill again we will go to a Ped GI.
This sounds so similar to our situation. We did notice that the best feedings are when she is half asleep in the middle of the night. She is less fussy and she eats more.
