I am having troubles with my morning number and keeping it under 100. I've done different things to mix it up, but I can't pinpoint anything consistent. If I don't eat a late snack, it could be high or fine. If I do, it could be high or fine. Any suggestions? At what point do they recommend insulin or meds? My day numbers are usually good. Thanks!
Re: GD Fasting Number High - Advice
I am on 2.5mg of glyburide at bedtime because I can't keep my fasting numbers under control no matter what I do. It took a week or so trying different snacks and getting high numbers before they prescribed glyburide.
Greek yogurt is my go to snack for keeping my fasting numbers down. What snacks are you eating? How long are you fasting? I was told that you shouldn't fast for more than 10 hours.

I vary my snacks, anything from peanut butter and nuts to carrots and yogurt. I've tried no snack as well. I fast for about 10 hours, maybe a bit longer. I go to the doctor today.

My doctor at the diabetes center says that the snack at night has nothing to do with your fasting numbers. (I am sure each doc thinks differently).
I am on insulin for my bedtime. They put me on it after only seeing my pattern go up for about 2 to 3 days.

I wound up having to go on 12 units of NPH (long acting) insulin overnight, because my morning draw just could not be controlled, although the rest of my numbers were great. However, I did have the best results when having some protein (greek yogurt or string cheese) and a small amount of full fat ice cream for my last night-time snack. (Chocolate peanut butter was the best when it came to balancing carbs/protein, etc). My nutritionist also wanted me to go no more than 8 hours fasting, because my liver was in fact dumping sugar like nobody's business if I didn't eat.
Btw, DS was perfect. 8 pounds even, and no blood sugar issues at all.
