Holding a bottle

Anyone else's LO stubborn about this?  DS USED to grab the bottle and hold on to it (like way before you'd expect him to be able to hold it).  But now, he'll grab onto it to guide it into his mouth, and then flail his arms out to the sides (almost like he's saying, "Ah, this is the life!")  It's pretty cute, but at the same time I'd love for him to be able to hold his own bottle!!!!!  We try letting go of it to force him to pick it up again, but he just SCREAMS.  So we end up putting it back in his mouth.

Any tips or tricks?  DS is about 8.5 months old in case you can't see my siggy.

Re: Holding a bottle

  • Does he use a sippy cup? My LO loves taking a handle on this sippy cup but won't hold his bottle. So sometimes I put his milk in the sippy cup.

  • Our LO spins his bottle in circles.  It's cute, but makes bottle-feeding tricky for DH.

He will pick his sippy cup up, put it in his mouth, and chew on it.  He will actually take sips from it if we hold it for him.  So no, he doesn't really drink from the cup on his own!  We bring it out for every meal to give him practice but he is a stubborn one!

He is the same as DD.  As soon as we touch the sippy or bottle she lets are arms flail out to her sides.

  • Neither of my DS ever held their own bottle. DD is trying to already. I think it just depends on the kid. I never found any tricks that worked. Good luck.

  • I have a skinny long bottle that LO holds on his own.  It's actually a bottle that came with my pump and only holds 3 ounces but he can almost get his hand around the whole thing.
