I don't remember hearing about these 5 years ago when I had DD, but I'm seeing them everywhere this time. Questions:
Do you/have you used one?
Do you think it works?
Where did you buy yours/what brand?
TIA

Re: Amber Teething Necklaces
I haven't used one previously, but have several friends who swear by them. I purchased ours from a local birth center.
Maybe this is a UO, but I agree with MandJS's DH: it's a load of crap.
The necklaces supposedly work by releasing succinic acid from the amber resin when it is warmed up by being against baby's skin. This acid reduces inflammation, and thus teething pain discomfort. This only works with Baltic amber, btw. However, a baby's body will not generate enough warmth to heat up the amber to the point where it will release the acid (370 degrees Farenheit!), and even if it did, there is no evidence the acid would be absorbed (or have any effect if it was). Which may be a good thing: large quantities irritate the skin and respiratory system and there is a risk of serious eye damage.
Also, it's a choking and strangulation risk. I know people say it works, but it's just a trendy (and possibly dangerous) placebo.
Also, I got the information in my post from a number of sources, but here is an article that I think addresses all of the important points: https://skeptoid.com/blog/2012/11/12/the-prettiest-strangulation-device-for-your-baby/
AGREED!
