Trying to decide what solid to introduce next. I make my ownfood for DD and I'm heading to the grocery store today and I'm looking for ideas.
We started at 6 months with avocado and my DD loved it but after several days I found it made her eczema a lot worse so we've stopped giving that to her for now. This was discouraging since I know avocado is loaded with benefits. We introduced sweet potato and she loves it also and she has tolerated it great for a couple weeks!
Looking for the next food to start. Since we've put avocado on hold I was thinking I'd like it to be another green veggie.
Ideas? What foods have you given you LO? Successes? Any foods that you've found you LO didn't tolderate/had sensitivity to? Are you making your own food? If so, what did you find easy to make?
Re: Next Solid Food...
I also make my own food for DS and like to get creative with new veggies/fruits and recipes. If you're looking for a green veggie try green beans or asparagus. They go really well mixed with carrots since your baby may not like the taste on their own. I would suggest once you know your daughter is OK with certain veggies to mix it up so it's more interesting for her. I usually will cook for example butternut squash - enough to fill up a few containers along with a couple containers of apple sauce or another fruit puree and store it in the fridge. At 6 mo my pedi suggested we introduce protein so I started making him a chicken soup and would puree it. He loooves it! My son is almost 9 months old and we've tried tons of fruits and veggies like beets and mango. Try this site - www.wholesomebabyfood.com -- it will give you more ideas and different veggies/fruits that are age appropriate.
Have fun!
We've done a bunch of stuff, I don't really follow the 3-day rule because LO hasn't had any sensitivities. We do a combination of jarred and homemade.
Here's some of what LO has eaten so far, I'm sure I missed some things:
Applesauce
Apricot
Avocado
Banana (have to keep trying, he doesn't like it)
Beets
Blueberries
Carrots
Cauliflower
Coconut Milk
Green Beans (didn't like)
Mango
Parsnips
Peas (didn't like)
Peaches
Pears
Pumpkin
Sweet Potato
Squash
Turnips
Yogurt - plain
Zucchini
Wow! That's quite a list! I'm WAY behind, haha!!
Ground beef
Chicken
Salmon
Potatoes
Carrots
Green beans
Spinach
Squash
Zucchini
Asparagus
Avocado [the only thing he didn't like]
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Bananas
Blueberries
Pineapple
Applesauce
Peaches
Pears
Mango
Strawberries
He's also had toast, pancakes, and waffles.
These are my son's favorite recipes:
Brocolli and Cauliflower with cheese sauce
chicken with apples and sweet potatoes
chicken with leek, carrots and peas
And yesterday I made my own recipe and he LOVES it.
Sautee 1/2 onion in olive oil, then mix a cup of lentils, half of a butternut squash and a large sweet potato and then add some broth. Let it cook till soft and puree.

I just got a children's cookbook by Tyler Florence. He suggested after the first couple months/weeks of introducing food, to ROAST fruits and veggies because they caramelize and their taste is phenomenal. I tried this with bananas and blueberries - toss whole bananas un-peeled with blueberries roast for 25 minutes and then blend the banana flesh with the berries - it was soooo delicious. I mixed this with quinoa for breakfast and both my kids loved it.
After fruits & veggies, I've made millet, amaranth and quinoa as a base to mix the fruits and veggies with. I've made big batches and frozen some.
I also add 2 tsp hempseed oil in their food every day for the high omega content.
