Pregnancy Milestone -- "Is it twins?"

So I hit a pregnancy milestone recently -- someone who works at the cafeteria at work asked me if I am having twins. Uhh.. I'm not, and I still have 7+ weeks to go! Am I really that enormous? Or is that the kind of thing idiots say to 3rd trimester ladies all the time?

  • It's the kind of thing people say.

  • Loading the player...
  • People are so weird. I never get why people think it is appropriate to ask something like that. Do unto others, people...
  • People keep telling me that there is no way I have two months left. Who says that to a pregnant woman?
  • What's hilarious is that I AM having twins and no one has said this to me yet! Even when I tell them, only 5 weeks to go! I guess my strangers are more tactful than some other people's strangers. Lol!

  • I got that on a daily basis during my first pregnancy for the whole last tri. This time around I get it a little less because I warned people at work not to do that again or I'd smack them upside the head :)

    Ugh I can't stand people. I get the "wow, you still have a while! I thought you were due any day!"nbsp;Yeah thanks, I have ten weeks. =/nbsp;

    I get this all.the.time! 9 weeks left and so tired of "I thought you were a lot closer!"
  • I have had the opposite reactions. Nobody can believe I have only gained 11 pounds and just have a small bump. Sometimes I don't really know how to respond to that either.

    Yeah that can be hard too -- we have a pregnancy group at work -- we're 6 women with 6 very different pregnancies.. and even though we're all due within 8 weeks of one and other, some have gained 50 lbs while others have gained 15. There are so many factors at play.

  • I received the same comment from one of the custodians at our school (a woman) asking "Are you sure you're not having twins?"  But the other custodian, a man, has made up for it on numerous occasions.  Each time he sees me, he says "Ms. S....you sure are looking fine!" and sincerely means it!  It's amazing how different people can be.

    I get something similar, a lot of "Wow, I expected you to be SOO much bigger!" and I am not a super petite person, just regular sized and I have gained 20lbs.

    So if I mention any kind of aches and pains they make it seem like I am making it up since "you are not big at ALL!"

    This.  And then if I mention it's twins I get "oh well you aren't even that big for twins!  I was *huge* when I was pregnant!"  Right.

  • I am so sick of people telling me how "big" I look.. Or wanting to tell me stories about their daughter, family member, etc. who was 9 months pregnant and hardly showing. I.DON'T.CARE. Obviously I didn't get that lucky.

    I get weekly texts from my SIL saying her nephews hungry. She doesn't think I'm big enough. Other people ask if I'm measuring correctly because I hardly look pregnant and that irritates me. So don't feel bad, OP, either way we can't win.
