Sears or JCP pictures?

Has anyone had photos done at either place?  We did the whole professional newborn photo shoot, and also did pro pictures in our house with a photographer for Christmas.  I'd like to get some more pictures done, want to just stick to a portrait studio.

I realize it'll be different depending on the location and specific person taking the pictures, but I'd still like to hear about your experiences.

Thanks!

  • We have had good luck with both.  I only like them on the plain white backgrounds though, otherwise they look 1980's cheesy!

  • I wasn't thrilled with Sears for our maternity pics. Do you have a picture people? I love them and you can get a bunch of pics for 18 bucks.

  • We had DS's photos taken at JCP for his 3 month & 6 months photos.

We had a bad experience at Target for his 3 months.  The photos came out blurry & the sales associate was still very pushy about purchasing even though the quality was bad.  We were disappointed so I made an appointment online that same week at JCP.  The photographer was great, the photos came out beautiful, & the studio was nice (clean/roomy/good lighting).  I will not go anywhere else now!  The packages can be pricey but if you stick to the $4 sheets (they almost always have a coupon for that price) you can get alot of pictures for not alot of money.

  • We bought the "membership" to JCP and have only had 2 sittings there so far. The first was Chirstmas and they turned out pretty good (8 out of 10). Baby was a little fussy but the photographer was great. The secon sitting was for LOs 3mo pictures. They weren't very good (6 out of 10). The photographer was a little rough with LO so he was sad or crying in most of the pictures. I also asked to have them take a picture with the 3 month sticker on his shirt. They did it but because of the lighting there was a big glare spot on the sticker and you couldn't read it. I would have thought that a decent photographer would have caught something like that before taking the picture and adjusted the lighting. So, what I guess I'm trying to say is it's hit or miss. I wish I had gotten the name of the first photographer so I could be sure to request her. Lesson learned.

  • We did JCP in November when they were offering free sitting fees. They were good. Just be aware that they only do 12 poses and you don't have much input. They were good enough that I am considering doing 9 month/Easter pictures with them as well though and then spring for a more expensive shoot for one year.

  • Yeah I've looked into PI but I've heard they can be really high pressure?! Also is there any way to get a cd of all the pictures, or do you just get sheets of poses you choose?

I used to take our first DS every month to Sears and get the cheap package and request a plain background.  They did an ok job, but it just depends on who you get.  We have taken DS#3 to Portrait Innovations and they did an ok job and printed the photos while you are there.  Do you have one of those near you?

I plan to get a professional photographer to do an outdoor family photo shoot when it warms up, but these are better than nothing.  They change so fast.

I have gone to JCP many times and never felt like I had no input.

If you get a coupon for $4 sheets from JCP's website, it is definitely cheaper than Sears, but I have gotten good photos from both. I have also heard PI is pushy.

  • Picture People if you really want to go with a studio.  I think they're usually decent for what they are.  Our local Sears and JCP are both a joke, imo.  I did Sears with my son when he was about a month old and OMG - it was AWFUL.  Really bad posing and props.  You couldn't pay me to go back.

Fwiw - None of these places use real trained photographers.  They're basically people off the street.

JCP & Target both offered a CD of all pictures but was expensive IMO ($149)

  • My husband's family did a session at JCP in Dec. 2011, and then this past Christmas, DH, SS, DS, and I went back for our family pictures. Both experiences were pretty good and we were pleased with the quality of the pictures, the poses, etc.
  • I was wondering the same thing I have a groupon credit for sears that I have to use...
Does anyone know how the website viewing options work for sears? Can you save and print pics from the site?
