I am assuming you mean hypotonia, and really the main thing is to keep them active. Whether its running, swimming, gymnastics...anything active that they enjoy. Some pedi's recommend some sort of physical therapy if the case is severe, but mild hypotonia tends to improve over time, as long as you keep your child active. Take trips to the park, play tag in the backyard, anything to keep them running around will really help.
I agree that it is really important to keep him active. Gymnasatics is especially good for children with low tone. But if you can't do that-- any type of outdoor playing is good-- walking/running around the block, games of tag with neighborhood kids, climbing on the playground equipment, etc.
Has the doctor suggested you do anything specific?
Ds has mild low muscle tone. He was born high-risk for issues so we were very proactive about getting PT. He's been in PT since 4 months old and was recently just dismissed, with a f/u in a few months. Low muscle tone is generally not something that goes away, but something they learn to compensate for. It takes them more work to do what comes easily and naturally for other kids.
yes my son does. He has a weak trunk and has some issues with gross/fine motor skills. He sees a OT once a week. I take him to bouncy places/playgrounds a lot.
