??? for STMs about babies and colds

My LO is nine days old and he seems to already have a cold. He doesn't have a runny or stuffy nose but he does seem to have a little congestion in his chest. Like when he breathes I can hear phlegm. Other than his first pediatrician appt last week, he has only been around me and my husband. We've had no visitors yet. I'm trying to determine how he may have already gotten a cold so soon. I noticed it early this morning around 3 am.

I can tell he doesn't feel well, because normally when we change his diapers or his clothes he cries loudly with irritation. I noticed today, he didn't even do that. He just lay there like he was tired and his eyes are kinda watery. I'd much rather have him kicking and screaming with irritation.

I'm currently waiting on the pediatrician to call me back. But do any of you have any thoughts or suggestions until I confirm. Feeling a little panicky and nervous.

  • Could be allergies too.

My daughter was sick a lot of her infancy and we didn't go out a bunch. It just happens.

  • Hmm...I hadn't thought about that. We do actually have a dog who walks around and shakes his hair every 20 minutes. It could be pet dander.
  • Wait for the pedi, but when DS1 was such as a baby, we were told to give him water and not to lay him flat.

  • OK...ladies. So I took him to the pedi and his lungs sounded fine. She told me that sometimes they can get a little extra saliva or milk in their throats and they just don't know how to clear it out but it will eventually break up. They checked his temp. He was fine. Ears...fine. Nothing wrong with him. Well I guess I'm just one of those paranoid FTMs. LOL.
