Laundry detergent

I currently use Dreft to wash my little ones laundry, but I use seventh generation all-natural detergent for the rest of the laundry.  It just occurred to me that I should probably use the seventh generation for the kids stuff too. Does anyone else use this, or do you have any good recommendations for Eco-friendly laundry detergent that is good for babies and toddlers things?

Yeah, I would stop using dreft, it has so many nasty chemicals I don't understand why women think its ok to use. I wouldn't even bother with any other comercial detergent, even the ones labeled free and clear are not all that free and clear. Make your own, it's cheaper, super easy and nontoxic.

    Here is my recipe:

Thank you so much for sharing your recipe! I've been thinking about making my own detergent, but I never knew how to start. I am going to try it this weekend. :-)

I use soap nuts and love them! They are hypoallergenic and my DS and I both have super sensitive skin - no problems here! Not only are they greener than detergent, you also save loads of green! I order mine in bulk from Green Virgin Products in FL and probably only make a couple orders each year to get the 21 kilo bag :)

We switch between homemade and soapnuts. We will cloth diaper so no soapnuts for that, but works great for all other laundry as long as you spot treat any stains. And the bags do last forever, and the old soapnuts go on the compost pile after they are no longer shiny.

Seventh Generation laundry detergent has a great rating on EWG but for the powder version - not the liquid version.  Just be sure to check on EWG for any ingredients of concern!
