Do you still swaddle if rolling over?

I know it's not really recommended, but I'm just wondering how many are still swaddling if LO is rolling.  If you're trying to break them of it, what's your tactic?

My DS is used to the RnP at night.  He's only napping in his crib right now.  If I swaddle him, he takes a nice long nap in his crib.  If he's not swaddled, he only sleeps for a few minutes.

  • Still swaddle. Unswaddled he only cat naps. DS is 6 mo old and honestly loves it! I try to occasionally not, but it doesn't last long. It's gonna be rough to break.

Eta oops DS is NOT rolling.

We stopped swaddling when she started rolling.nbsp; We used the magic sleepsuit to break the swaddle an it works very well for us.nbsp; Breaking the sleepsuit will be a battle for another day in our house.

Yep, this for us too. I'm dreading breaking her of the sleep suit, but we tried just a sleep sack and that was a miserable failure.

  • DS rolls while not swaddled and hasn't yet while swaddled. We keep him swaddled and use a sleep positioner. No plans to stop any time soon.

  • We still swaddle. With DS, we tucked rolled receiving blankets alongside him and that worked great. DD hasn't moved much while sleeping and sleeps in the cradle next to me still. We'll employ the blankets when needed, but have no plans to quit swaddling. She sleeps soooo much better that way.

  • I swaddle their bodies at night but not arms. If H wakes up I will swaddle her arms in but she isn't rolling back to front yet. During naps I swaddle their arms in. I hadn't started this until last weekend but they just do not nap and I think this helps calm them down. A is rolling onto her belly from her back a lot but not when swaddled and I check on her often during her naps.

  • Ugh mine just started rolling over the other day and he is NOT ready to not be swaddled, so needless to say we haven't gotten very much sleep!! I've been using a receiving blanket and kind of pinning his arms down because he flails so much, and it lets him fall to sleep a lot easier, but he can easily break out of it (that's the point too) so he wakes up a lot sooner than usual. Last night he was up every 1-2 hours, but I ordered a magic sleep suit and it should arrive today! I can't wait to try it, I've heard rave reviews! I have also tried swaddling him with one arm out, but he waves the arm all around and grabs his pacifier out of his mouth, so the suit is probably my last resort!

  • I've been kind of nervous because our lo has needed swaddling. We asked our pediatrician Thursday if its ok. He said some think you shouldn't do it if their legs are tightly swaddled. But I told him his legs are loose bc it's a sleep sack kind and he just needs his arms tight. He was its absolutely ok then and he'll grow out if it. Wouldn't you know this wknd he slept every night with his arms out! He started by freaking out putting him in his swaddle which he never does. So I gave up and undid his arms. He slept! Not through the night, but I think he's having teething issues right now. So my advice is to let yours out grow it on their own.

  • Also, he can roll both ways, but never did in the swaddle.

  • I'm with HALO and I'm also a mom and a HALO SleepSack user.  It is safest to stop swaddling now that your LO is rolling.  When we stopped swaddling, we weaned gradually, swaddling with the HALO SleepSack Swaddle one arm out, then both, then transitioning to a Halo SleepSack wearable blanket.  The SleepSack Swaddle really helped with the transition, providing snugness and confinement, yet allowing him to adjust to his arms being free.  I hope this helps!
