Getting close...any tips?

We are getting close and very excited and anxious. Any tips for when I first come home with DS2? I'm so worried about leaving DS1 while I'm in the hospital that Its been my recent primary focus. I need to get together my game plan for when we actually get home and start real life!

  • Get food prepared. Get your place as babyproofed as possible, because while youre busy with your baby, your toddler will be alllllllll over the place unless you barricade him in!

haha, thanks. We do have a barricade with long gates, thank goodness. I do have to premake a few things though! Thanks!

  • I'm in the same boat as you. I have a few meals made up in the fridge/freezer. I organized all DS1's clothes so that the dresser only has what fits now (to make it easier on DH). I have gates set up so I can somewhat cage DS1 when needed. I'm sure I forgot a hundred things, but we'll see in a week or two.
  • Def have meals ready weather it's cooking and freezing or buying some pre made meals in the frozen section of the supermarket. Stock up on groceries, paper towels, tp, etc. buy paper plates...save you on running and unloading the dishwasher..whatever gets you through the first few wks

The best you can stay on top of laundry before you go into labor so you don't come home to a ton of laundry.

Get out/clean baby swing, bouncy chair, etc because you will likely use these earlier than w your first.

  • Prepare to use your baby bjorn!  I couldn't use my bouncy seat or swing much because DD1 would not leave DD2 alone when she was in it!  I wore DD2 a lot just for her own safety.  I couldn't even leave her in the pack & play - DD1 could climb in.  Also, baby gates are worthless in our house - they climb over them, too.  Also, stock up on diapers.  I was amazed at how fast I went through them and how much I dreaded going shopping with the two of them.  I got used to it, and it got easier for a little while.  Now that they are 2.5 and 1.5, they both climb out of shopping carts.  I can't overemphasize the importance of a good double stroller to keep them contained!  Good luck!
