Hello,
I'm a FTM in the midst of scheduling a C-section due to my breech baby (probably 3/25 or 3/26). Besides the items typically recommended for all women to bring to the hospital for birth, what should I bring since I am having a C-section?
Also - any suggestions for high waisted undies? I bought some today and they were not nearly as high as I thought they would be ... but I'm thinking once I'm smaller, they will be closer to my belly button?
Thanks!
Re: What to bring for a planned C-Section?
I found that plus size full brief panties worked the best they were high waist'd and fit perfectly for my sore points and didn't slide down at all. As for other things to bring, I honestly didn't use pants at the hospital I was mostly to bed or bathroom which was in my room so I used the sheets to cover up on top of sports bra and panties because more then that was uncomfortable or made me sweat to much with the hormone changes. I honestly found the incision cover they used to be the only thing needed, if I have another one I will ask for an extra cover, it helped support and keep the stitches and tape underneath dry and made walking easier.
P.s you may want to bring some snacks, I might be odd but I was so hungry afterwards but didn't want the hospital food or the big meals just more to nibble all day. I found it kept my energy up and help me feel more human, just a heads up.
Good luck to you and your baby!
For me having some cozy socks/slippers, Chapstick, and Olay daily facial wipes were key. With the wipes I could wipe my face, neck, chest and feel a little refreshed inbetween showers. Also something to watch movies on there is nothing on tv!, some snacks, and a pillow. The hospital pillows are"crunchy".
Good luck!!
It sounds weird, but we brought a humidifier. Well MH brought it the next day. The rooms are so dry and dry air makes you cough. Coughing hurts like a sonofabitch after a c/s. It was just a little thing, but it made such a huge difference in recovery.
I didn't do high waisted undies. I used the mesh ones until I ran out and then used regular undies.
A binder was nice to have in the hospital. I wasn't concerned about using for appearance (hips going back in quicker) but it was great for back support.
All of this. The wipes were the best tip I got. You won't be able to shower for a bit and hospitals make you feel so icky. The wipes were a lifesaver! I also agree on the snacks. I was STARVING after my c/s. My nurse brought me extra mesh panties, as I developed a strong affection for those things. I would see if you can get as many as they'll give you. And, I also wore big underwear from target. My incision is super low, but the skin above my incision was very tender.

I hates the gowns & underwear & pads the hospital has. Both c/s's I put on my own clothes & started using my own pads the next day. So, I brought all of that on my own. I had my computer/phone/camera with me both times. My own pillow, socks for walking the halls, bathroom things (tooth brush, etc). I did bring my own towel as well.
Both c/s I was there overnight 4 nights (5 days), so there is a lot of down time that I'm just laying in bed with a sleeping newborn.
