Nervous about induction

I'm scheduled to be induced tomorrow morning and I'm getting really nervous. I am 5 days past my due date now but wasn't dilated at all until 40 weeks. Even then I was only 1 cm. dilated and he still hadn't dropped. My doctor did a membrane sweep at my last appointment in hopes of it getting things started but I've barely had any contractions all week. I'm anxious, but I have concerns that the induction won't work.

Re: Nervous about induction

  • I was majorly not wanting a c-section with DS.  I went into labor on my own but it was taking forever and he was having heartrate issues (turned out the cord was pretty tight around his neck and when I'd have a contraction or push, his heartrate would go down, but then return to normal after).  I thought for sure they'd say c-section.  It was so different in the moment.  As much as that wouldn't have been my top choice, it was all just about having a healthy baby.  I ended up having a vaginal delivery in the end.  You will do great and be holding your LO so soon!!!  GL!  Focus on holding that baby!

  • Don't worry to much about your starting diolation or if your baby has dropped or not. With both of my kids I had a fingertip or less diolation when my inductions started and neither dropped till nearing the very end of labor. Both of my labors were a full 24 hours but resulted in normal vaginal deliveries.

  • And I am on the wrong board lol but still don't worry to much.

  • I started out less than 1 cm dilated and 50 percent effaced. My double induction was the absolute worst case scenario. 2 nights of cervadil, 2 days of pitocin for a total of 43 hours of labor with 0 cervical progress. I ended up having a c section. And guess what? 12 days later I don't regret a thing. It was no fun while it was happening, sure, but as soon as I saw my daughter it was all forgotten. You can read my birth story at vmihelcic.blogspot.com if you're interested. Just so you know, MOST inductions do work. That's the norm, not the failures. My situation is incredibly rare. I hope this helps! I am trying to empower you, not scare you!

  • Good luck! I was nervous about both of my inductions. Moreso this last one, actually. Remember the end result is a beautiful little baby!
