Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone else have a LO with milk protein allergy?

We have an appointment with his GI doctor this Tuesday and I plan to ask there as well, but I'm curious what finger foods you are offering LO.  We'd love to start with some kind of Puffs, but those have dairy products in them so they're off limits.  :-(  I don't know of anything else like that meant for his age to help him get used to picking things up and putting them in his mouth.  Even Cheerios are off the table.

Any suggestions?

Re: Anyone else have a LO with milk protein allergy?

  • Parents Choice (Walmart brand) puffs do not have dairy and when I read the Cheerios label I did not see any dairy products listed in the ingredients (I can double check, but I eat cheerios regularly and it doesn't affect LO, but I have not tried giving them directly to him).  I give LO very small pieces of banana and avocado as some finger food, but he is only a week over 6 months so we are still mainly doing purees right now.

  • Ooh I should have also mentioned that because of the milk protein allergy, we aren't giving him any soy products either since there is such a high correlation between the two.

I just checked the Parents Choice online, and they say Contains Wheat and Soy Ingredients (so that's out).  I double checked Cheerios, and I will ask about these...I don't see any hidden dairy/soy ingredients but better safe than sorry.  However I know at this point DS would probably choke on them because he's never had anything remotely close to that consistency (which is why I'd like to start out with something like Puffs).  I looked at the Happy Baby brand and just sent an email to them.  The allergy info says no wheat, but nothing about dairy or soy and I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Thanks for the help (and if anyone else has suggestions I'd love to hear them!)

  • We used the Happy Baby Organic Puffs as well.  And once he got older we tried several cereals, I remember regluar plain Cheerios being safe, and also Rice Chex, but of course double check.
