It is normal to just see the triage nurse. They assess you so the doctor doesn't have to see everyone who walks in. Your contractions must not have been registering as very strong. If I were you I would try to get some rest because your LO will definitely be here sooner than later!
I do not think it's typical that you didn't even see at doctor, but maybe they were communicating everything to him/her and the doc made the call to send you home? That stinks, but hopefully things will pick up for you.

Maybe they meant they weren't strong enough contractions to progress you
any more. 3 cm isn't dilated that much (I've been 3 cm for two weeks).
Saying you weren't in enough pain was probably not the way to word it.
How far apart were you contractions??
They were 3 minutes apart and I say "not enough pain" because that's literally what the nurse told me was the reason I was going home.
And the doctor thing is that I go to an OBGYN where there is a team and this was the one doctor I hadn't seen before I felt like they didn't even want to deal with me...
my blood pressure was 138/87 too
my husband and I are just really un-nerves by our visit, we feel like we weren't really even evaluated and just sent home because of the nurse who btw was a complete B****
Sometimes I think they are so used to women going in there and screaming in pain and being dilated to a 1 that if you are not screaming, they think that you aren't in true labor.

This. I've been to L&D 3 times and the nurses were talking to the doctor via phone because he wasn't there. When I went and was sent home I had similar progress but they said my contractions were "ineffective" meaning I wasn't dilating more so the contractions weren't doing their job except for being a holes in the pain department I hope you get relief soon!

I don't think it's not uncommon to not see a doctor. If your practice's on-call is busy or not in the hospital, and your contractions aren't measuring strong enough, a nurse can handle everything else.
It sounds like you unfortunately weren't progressing enough for them to consider you to be in active labor.
I was dilated at 2 cm with contractions 4 mins apart off and on from 34-35 wks, dilated at 3 cm at 36, and here I am, walking around at 5cm for over a week. I had an NST on Thursday and my progression has been so slow and gradual they don't want me back until my contractions are so painful I can't talk through them.
It's frustrating to be sent home, but also very common.
ETA: I've been fully effaced for about a month. Feels like I'm sitting on the little guy's head.

Both times I went in I only saw a triage nurses- my dr was on the phone - it seems real normal. I was sent home the last time because contractions weren't painful enough. Also my blood pressure was the same as yourself- my dr said pretty normal since w had come in with anticipation, etc. my drs appt was three days later and my blood pressure was back down. I had contractions all the next day but nothing to put me over the ege then they went back to the BH kind - every once in a while I have a strong one but nothing consistent - I'm 40 weeks on Tuesday and being induced.
I had the same thing happen to me, but my husband told the nurse we werent leaving, so they gave me morphine and nausea meds and told me to sleep. I was still feeling pain from my contractions an hour later and unable to sleep. I called in the nurse and had gone from 2-3cm in an hour. I had my baby boy 24 hours later. I hope yout baby comes soon. Don't hesitate to go in to L&D again! who cares if the nurse was mean. you dont want to have a baby in the car.
Granted I'm a STM but my doctor told me not to mess around, to go to the hospital if I thought something was going on. I had no signs of impending labor with my first, no dilating or anythethe morning I went into labor. I was at 3 1/2 when I got to hospital and they had me walk the hall because they don't like to admit until 4cm....walked my way to 4 cm and then had like 14 more hours of labor until dd was born. He says hes seen too many women wait and then had some come in with babies in their arms, and it was much better to just come too soon. As far as pain....I thought it'd be much worse and then chickened out when they wanted to start pitocin. If no pitocin this round, id like to try with no epidural...but pain is subjective. As a nurse myself I feel like your nurse was kind of a b because she should know that. I bet if you had called OB first they'd have told you to do just what you did and go in. Hopefully next time is it, and don't wait because of one nasty nurse!

Yeah they only monitored me for an hour and because my contractions were only 40 to 50% on the pain scale it was enough...
My husband and I are really confused and frustrated! We didn't even see a doctor only the triage nurse... Is that normal?
