rec your child carrier for the bike?

Hello - my husband and I are really into cycling and last summer our son was too young to pull in a bike carrier.  We're looking forward to warmer weather soon to get out on the bikes and want DS to come with us.

Anyone have a child carrier for their bike they would rec?  I am talking about something like this...https://www.target.com/p/c3-double-child-bicycle-trailer-strolling-kit-jogging-kit-gray-darkblue-lightblue/-/A-14265055?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=|14265055&CPNG=Sports&kpid=14265055&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14265055

  • We debated one like you said or one that attaches to the bike.  We got one that goes on the front and have not used it yet bc DS was too young last year too but I am interested to see what others say.  My problem with the ones you pull is that for the few instances you are not on a sidewalk it makes me nervous about someone hitting it.

  • I have the Chariot Cheetah and I can't wait to actually use it with my bike since last year my son was too young, too. I've used it as a jogging stroller in the meantime and it's a luxurious ride for my son and super light and comfortable to push for me. It's very stable and well-constructed. I did hook it up to my bike and took it for a test spin and it felt really easy and natural. As a cyclist, I never ride on sidewalks but I plan to mostly take him out on trails anyway. Realistically, anyone in a car who is close enough to hit your bike trailer is close enough to hit you on your bike-- in other words, too close! Just be alert and aware of your surroundings and you should be fine.

  • I have a chariot as well and love it. If you are a casual biker you might be ok with something from Target but if you are riding often invest in something from your local bike shop. The quality is dramatically different. Burley and Chariot are the 2 brands to look for. Both are expensive but really hold their value for resale. If you absolutely can't spend that much get a copilot which is also at bike shops. You can probably tell I work at a shop but obviously you won't be buying from my shop so this isn't just a sales pitch. It comes from many years of experience helping customers with trailers from all sorts of brands. I would use a front seat for casual neighborhood riding and plan to get one for that but for longer real riding I think the trailer is much safer.

  • Thanks everyone!  We are closer to the "serious" side of cylcing versus casual...so the link was just a quick google search for a picture.  We just moved to the town we're in, so we need to visit the bike shop here and check out some of the trails.  Sounds like there are some good options...thanks again!!

  • We have the Chariot Cougar 1 and just upgraded to the Chariot CX2.  We've been very happy with ours.  They are extremely versatile, comfortable and extremely well made.  They are worth the extra investment and hold their resale value well.  I also use mine for running or if we are going out on longer day trips.
