Need some advice stat! I seem to have developed a skin irritation in the area where my groin and leg meet and even more embarrassing, in my butt crack. It's almost like I have a freaking diaper rash! I've had general irritation in this area my whole pregancy but it's definately kicked up a notch. I am not a happy camper. It doesn't look like a rash as much as angry red skin anywhere I have a crease.
I bought some baby powder today in hopes it will calm things down and cut down on friction and excess moisture. Any other over the counter recommendations? I tried to do a bump search but "itchy groin" didnt come up with any good matches. I do have an OB appt this week thank goodness, but hoping for some relief before then. Sorry for the tmi ladies, I figure if there's anywhere I can ask this question it's here!

Second off, check out the doctor in case it is a yeast infection, but Miconazole powder will help with that and you can get it over the counter (we use it at the hospital all the time). Also, Calmoseptine, if it's available OTC, but it's thick and can stick to everything. When in doubt, I always recommend Gold Bond medicated powder-- that stuff cures EVERYTHING (including planter's warts) but I imagine it would tingle (and possibly not in a good way) with your rash...
Cotton underwear is a good idea, too, of course. Hang in there!

Did not know that about baby powder, thankful i've never used it before.
DH just dug some gold bond out of the bathroom so I think I'll try that tonite. I've been wearing cotton undies all the time, I just get so overheated not matter what, I'm sure that's not helping matters. Think I'll call my OB tmrw to discuss..

Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
The powder containing talc has been linked to cervical cancer. If you need to use powder, my OB/GYN recommends baby powder containing corn starch. Corn starch powders are safe to use.
Yes, good point: corn starch is just essentially corn sugar in powdered form and not linked to cancer. Although, I have found that its texture can get clumpy and cause friction rashes. The Gold Bond, I should have clarified, should only be used externally (like on your bum).
If it's a yeast rash, though, you really need the anti-yeast/anti-fungus kind of treatments.

Well I was able to have my OB appt today, and I mentioned the issue and as I expected my OB just said "oh that's normal" and to wear cotton underwear and that was about it. She definately falls short in the advice column, every pregnancy related compliant that I've had, she just says, oh that's normal which I of course know, it would just be nice to get some helpful advice to make it less annoying. My DH does a wonderful impression of her, oh that's normal.. lol. In terms of overall care I do still feel like I'm in good hands.
I did try the gold bond powder last night and today, it's definately cut down on the irritation, I was moisturizing that area thinking it would help but I think it may have actually made the issue worse. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I had the same thing happen, it burned/hurt but did not itch. I already wear cotton undies but I had been overly active and extra sweaty over the course of the few days prior so I thought it could be chaffing or something similar. I used neosporin (sp?) after a shower and then let the area air out real good. Next day it was practically gone!
Hope you figure out something that works!
You can also try taking a bath with witch hazel in it. (Just make sure the bath isn't TOO hot and take time when standing (you can get dizzy easier when standing from lying down when PG). Witch hazel is an astringent and could help, though it might take a couple baths to do so. (You could use a sitz bath if you have one... kind of like a mini-tub that sits on your toilet just to bathe your privates...) It's best if you are able to let yourself airdry before putting clothes back on.
GOOD LUCK
Wendy
