My LO will be 8 months Sunday. People constantly tell me I should be feeding him table foods (foods that I eat). He is BF, eats purees, and have a little juice (maybe 1 oz a week if that) and water just for taste. Am I wrong for not giving him other foods? I just can't see myself feeding my LO cookies, french fries, and fried foods.
Re: I must be doing something wrong!!!
Why does it have to cookies, french fries and other fried foods? Why can't you start giving him peas, chopped up carrots and diced apples or mashed up banana? Small pieces of chicken and cheese??
I don't think you are doing anything wrong, but just know that all the foods you make into purees, he can probably start eating in a more solid food at this point.
DS gets mostly purees in the morning and evening, but he gets actual solid food too. He eats pancakes, scrambled eggs, ground beef, cheese, peas, carrots... and other things that are similar.
It's good for them to get the practice of mastering the chewing motion.... if I were you I wouldn't wait much longer. But like I said, giving your LO solids isn't giving him bad food. It can and should be fruits, veggies, dairy and meats.
But again, no... you aren't doing anything wrong. It's your personal preference, and you have a right as his mother to make said decisions.

No problem!! You can start with puffs too, or cheerios.... they dissolve quickly so that will help avoid the choking concerns.
If you have food allergies in your family, I would suggest starting with just the yolk. (that is what's recommend at this age) We don't have food allergies so we did the whole egg.
www.wholesomebabyfood.com has some great tips and is up to date on all of the food recommendations.
Good luck and have fun!

Puffs are an easy starting place. We started DS at 6 months, a handful of whole puffs and its really taught him how to chew. He eats mostly purees for his meals but also gets food from my plate like peas, avocado, other veggies, banana, pieces of rice, smashed beans, etc. I definitely wouldnt give him anything "unnecesary." Like fried foods or sugary foods. So def stick to your instincts about cookies and fried foods.
Start with puffs or steamed veggies that can be a little mushy.
Lurker here; talk about bad food choices! I wouldn't trust their judgement on food if all they are offering amounts to junk food with little redeeming nutritional value.
Some people acted like this with my son too. I think they just like to see the baby's reaction because the junky foods taste good and they usually like it. Stick to your guns though! My son didn't have any sweets until his birthday cake at his first birthday. I think he had his first french fry at almost 2 and that was an accident because he stole it off my husband's plate at a restaurant.
I felt very strongly about introducing healthy foods first and I'm glad because now, as a 3 year old, my son enjoys a cookie or ice cream or fries on occasion but overall has a very healthy diet.
