Babies: 9 - 12 Months

LO does things one day and not the next.

My son who just turned 9 months will babble dada for a few days then not do it. He was doing So Big for a week and now won't do it again. Anyone else's LO doing things and then not doing them?

Re: LO does things one day and not the next.

  • hi there...this had me worried for a while too.  my lo's (now 11 months, 10 months adjusted--they're twins) would do things for a few days and stop doing them as if they forgot.  anyway, i'm told by my dd's physical therapist that this is normal, that they are experimenting and practicing and learning other skills that have them preoccupied and that it should return....and their skills did.  so i guess what i'm saying is don't worry...i've been there and things seem fine now. i hope this helps!

  • Thanks so much! When did their skills typically return?

I think sometimes they forget things. Like they figure out how to do something on a fluke so spend all day repeating it but then go to sleep and wake up the next day and aren't able to remember how they did it. It will come to them eventually but definitely a normal part of development.

that's hard to say...sometimes after a week, sometimes after a month. i'm a very over-anxious person so i really did my best to keep track of these things b/c i got really worried that one babbled all week, but not the next week or whatever.  i'm told that it's typical, and it was for my lo's.
  • DS does this with some things for a little then stops, I think he has a mind of his own and I find when I try to push him to do the things he started he does the opposite and won't do them at all.  I would agree it must just be a development thing.

  • My girls do this all the time too! Like they were doing "So big" 100 times a day for a few weeks, then they refused to do it for about a month, and then suddenly picked it up again (without prompting!). My friend told me her LO walked, several steps, several times over 2 or 3 days, then he didn't walk again for 3 weeks. I think it's normal, but man, is it weird!
