Walking after cs?

I know we are not supposed to exercise until at least 6 weeks post cs, but what about just walking? Would a 30 minute walk be ok do you all think?

I am 4 weeks pp tomorrow.

Thank you!

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • I would think as long as you're feeling up to it that it would be fine. I started taking walks with DD at 3 weeks, but they usually weren't very long because my incision would start hurting. I just started with short walks and gradually increased them if I was feeling better.

  • I think anything that feels fine is probably okay.  I went for walks as soon as I got home from the hospital and was doing easy 3 mile runs around 4 weeks pp.  I felt great and had a wonderful recovery without any complications.

  • I have been walking, slowly increasing the distance since we got home from the hospital. They even encouraged me to walk while in the hospital. Just take it slow and do what feels comfortable.

  • Have you had your first check up?  I did short walks, increasing each time.  I felt really good one nice day and definitely overdid it. Just take it easy and make sure you don't get too far from home. I didn't feel 'normal' until probably 16 weeks or so.
  • 4 weeks out?  Yes, I would've been going insane if I wasn't out walking by then.  I started taking slow walks around 2 weeks and a month out was walking the neighborhood.

  • I think as long as you are comfortable that would be fine. By the time DS was 10 days old we'd been to Walmart several times and I can't imagine how much walking I did during those trips. That would have included me carrying baby the entire time as well.
  • Best thing to do would be to call your doctor but you should be ok.  I was walking around town after mine but if I started feeling off I made sure to sit and rest for a bit....just don't push yourself.  One thing I noticed was if I tried to push myself to stand for too long my scar would start to hurt.

  • At 2 weeks we were taking daily walks of 30 to 60 minutes.

  • I think it should be fine but you could always call your OB.  I was up and walking the halls about 12 hours after my c/s.  I'd walk for about 15 minutes, and that was the day of, so I would think a 30 minute walk 4w out would be more than ok.
