Baby Names

Is this too much? Sibset matchyness?

DD is Ivy, and we are having a boy this time around. I posted a while back about likening the names Patrick and Phillip to go with Ivy, but I am having second thoughts because I don't like the NNs. So looking at names with no nicknames (which was one of our naming criteria when naming DD) , I really like the names Ian and Adam, but would Ivy and Ian be too matchy, and when you see Ivy and Adam, does it automatically make you think Adam and Eve? What do you think?

  • I think Ivy and Ian are to much but I like Ivy with Adam. I do not think of Adam and Eve.

I don't think Ian and Ivy are too matchy because Ivy is the long I sound while Ian is the long E sound.  Yes, they both have three letters and start with I, but I think they look fine together.  I don't think you can go wrong with either name.

  • Hmm...I'm not sure what I think of Ivy and Ian.  I really like Ian (better than Adam), and I don't think that Ivy and Ian sound matchy at all, but maybe they look a little matchy?  Eh, I'd probably use it anyway.

I do not think of Adam and Eve with Adam and Ivy.

  • For Ian if I just heard the names and didn't see the kids, I'd probably think they were twins. Not a bad thing, though.

I don't think of Adam and Eve.

  • I prefer the name Ian.

and I'm totally with you on Patrick... I love the name but don't like the nn Pat.

  • I don't think Adam and Eve when I see Adam and Ivy. I prefer Ian and and Ivy. I like that they have a matching letter but a different sound.

  • Thanks ladies, I really like Ian a lot, and feel like it could be the one. Now just have to get DH on board, and deal with MIL who thinks Ian is a "sissy boy name".

  • I like Ian and Ivy. They sound cute together, and start with different "i" sounds.
