Moms who live/lived in Hampton Roads area

Do you or did you have a peds office here you really liked?  We live in south Chesapeake so I would prefer one nearby.  The hospital I'm delivering at is having a baby fair this month and there will be several peds in attendance, so I know we will talk to some there.  Just wondering if anyone had an office that they recommended from experience.  Thanks!

Re: Moms who live/lived in Hampton Roads area

  • My kids are seen at Pediatrics Specialists (they're on Prime though).  I like them and have not a single complaint. They have 4 different offices if I recall correctly and I think two are in Chesapeake but couldn't tell you exactly where. I've only been to their two Norfolk locations.

    Here's their website:   https://www.chkd.org/Services/PediatricSpecialists/Locations.aspx

  • Awesome, thank you!  I was given a list of CHKD peds from my OB, and they are on that list.  And one of their offices is right near my OB's office, so I will probably end up calling them.  Thanks again!

  • My kids were on prime and saw Dr. Marchlewski at JEB Little Creek.  He's a wonderful doctor and his office was always running on time.  I'm guessing you are looking for civilian recs, but thought I'd post this incase it can help someone else.

  • We live in south Chesapeake too, off Cedar Rd.  We see Dr. DeTriquet at Pediatric Specialists on Dominion Blvd.  I really love his demeanor.  He is patient and experienced, and kind to new mamas.  I have gone in a few times for neurotic worry-wart new mama things, and he never made me feel silly for coming in.

The office is part of CHKD.  We never have to wait at the office, the nurse we see is sweet, and they have seen us within half an hour when we woke up with a sick baby.

You're not too far from me then, we're off Mt. Pleasant.  That's awesome to hear, because this new mom will likely have some neurotic moments too.  Thanks!

  • What I like about Pediatric Specialists is that if you start with one doc and just find you don't "click" with them that it's very easy to switch.  Nothing formal is needed and you just make an appointment with a different doc you'd like to see.  We started with one who was very nice and was perfectly fine but I just didn't get the warm and fuzzy from her.  Absolutely nothing wrong at all, just personality differences really.  I'm a talker and she wasn't so that was our issue if I had to pin it to anything.  So, at the end of the appointment when I needed to schedule the next well baby exam I just picked a day and they listed off what docs had available slots and I picked one.  Now I'm very content with the care my kids receive.

Recently we had to go in for a sick kid visit and went to a different office (and saw a different doc) and had absolutely no trouble.  Records are all digital so all my son's information was there at hand.

We started with PS because I just randomly selected them as the doc to see my daughter when she was born at the Midwifery Center at DePaul.  Pretty good for just a random selection!

  • Pediatric affiliates of he is good too, they're in Virginia Beach though.

Beachy730, I tried to send you a PM but didn't see the option.  I deleted the recent post we were exchanging input on.  I really don't want any negativity nor do you I'm sure.  I won't understand how someone can't mention the name of my husbands sub, but we can list the name of the street we live on.  But, I'll roll with it.  I'm learning the ropes here as I'm still new.  I just noticed you were 31 weeks along.  Wishing you the best and a smooth rest of your pregnancy. Take care ;)

You don't want negativity, but you went back to find something I said that you could call me out on?  Neither of us mentioned the name of the street we live on, we mentioned living off of 2 main streets in the city that are both 5-10 miles long probably and span huge areas, hundreds of subdivisions and streets off of them.

Honestly I don't care what you post.  Tell everyone the name of the sub/ship your H is on if you want, and you can post your address for all I care.  This board, as well as all the military board on this site (TK and TN) are known for being careful about OPSEC and PERSEC.  So people will almost always warn you if you're saying something that you probably shouldn't, and the mods are within their right to delete posts if they want to.  If you choose not to take the advice then that's your choice.  But seriously, just let it freaking go already.
