Negative nurse

Yesterday our darling girl hit 6 pounds! She is 9 weeks actual, 1 week adjusted. She was IUGR and born at 32 weeks, 2 lbs 11 oz.

So my husband and I were celebrating the 6 pound mark, and so happy to see her gaining an ounce a day at home.

Then this ahole nurse scoffs and says "well she's not breaking any records, but I guess it will do"

Um, screw you. We are fighting for every ounce, and we WILL celebrate small victories. I refuse to feel shamed for staying positive and focusing on our little girl not how she compares to a term infant

Here's to six pounds! Hooray!

Screw that nurse! Yay for 6 pounds!!! We would celebrate that she gained 10 grams, since that meant that she didn't go backwards!

  • That nurse is a moron, and I would have had a really hard time not telling her to go *** herself. I would also be making sure she is no longer on my kid's service, but I am vindictive like that. Your LO's weight gain is awesome and you should be happy!
  • We had the same sort of thing happen just yesterday. We have never even once asked the question...when will he come home. We feel when we get close they will tell us and even then we wont get out hopes up till he is strapped in the carseat!

Well, last week the Dr. Was making rounds anf commented on how well Fowler was progressing and he would not be supprised if he hits his milestones over the next 2 to 3 weeks. When he walked off a nurse we sont normal have said. I would not get too excited. I would be really suprised if he continues to make that much progress. Everyone is going to have setbacks, no exceptions.
I jusy glared at her with my mouth open.. dh walked out for a few minutes. The nerve of her!!!

  • Try not to let her negativity get to you. Unless you are a parent of a premie you do not truly understand that an ounce or two gained is a huge deal. That is exciting your little one is gaining weight. My boys were born at 3.11 and 3.15 so I was excited for every ounce too.

  • As a post partum nurse, who sees IUGR babies and 36 weekers truly struggle with weight loss and subsequent NICU admissions due to the same, this saddens me. Any weight gain, weight maintenance, or heck, even weight loss that is less than 10% of baby's birth weight (our current guideline for notifying the pedi) deserves a celebration. Good for your LO, for you all - what great progress! Don't be discouraged, saddened, or infuriated, that nurse's negativity is not worth an ounce of your time or frustration. No pun intended ;) As nurses, I feel our job is to provide hope, comfort, and compassionate care at all times. I'm truly sorry. Our 28 weeker had a long battle with weight fluctuations, every gram gained is a victory! Congratulations for 6 Ibs!
