Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Two days, no poo.

LO is on his second day of no poop, should I be concerned?  He's almost 4 months old and BF, except he had similac for one feeding yesterday and one today because my supply has been low lately. He hasn't had any prior poo issues and he doesn't seem uncomfortable or bothered by this one yet.

Re: Two days, no poo.

  • I would agree with that first response, and would simply add from personal experience with formula supplementation of an EBF baby that you should listen for grunting if you are worried. If your baby begins grunting as though he is trying to go but having difficulty, then there is a possibility that he really has become constipated from the formula and you may want to ask his dr how you can assist him. I found massage helpful in that situation.

  • I had the same concern.  He had a bm a least twice a day since birth.  Close to 4 months that stopped.  I was so concerned...then all of a sudden one day...EVERYTHING came out.  He still does not go daily.  But every other day.  My pediatrician said not to worry.

  • I was ebf-ing and one time around 2 months, our lo went 4 whole days!  I was so worried.  But it was totally fine.  Our lactation consultant said it is perfectly normal:)  Especially if your lo is happy and comfortable, there is nothing to worry about.  OH, and when he DID poop, it was epic!  So be prepared...haha!

  • No reason to worry.  EBF babies can go 10 days with no poop. Have you tried the thermometer trick?
