Two Under 2

Tell me...

How hard/ crazy is it having 2 under 2? We're currently ttc, and DS is 10 months. I'm sure I can do this, but I'm still a bit nervous about it too. Am I nuts for wanting to go for round 2 so early???

Re: Tell me...

  • That is not ''early''. Early would be a BFP at your 6 week PP check.

I want my children 18 months apart; I figure it's a good time for me to be healed in between pregnancies and the older child(ren) would be a little independent by the time the latest addition shows up. It worked for my mother when she raised me and my siblings.

"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL

  • My mom keeps telling me its too soon, so I just got it in my head that maybe it is??? theres a 4 year gap between my brother and I, and we're close.... but not THAT close to each other. I lost my playmate when he entered middle school. I don't want that for DS. Plus my H has 3 sibblings with a year or so gap between the older 2 and a year gap between him and his older sister. So of course, he's ready for #2.
another thing thats getting to me is how is DS going to take to the new addition? Right now hes getting all my attention and love, and I feel guilty that I'm going to be taking that away from him so soon. And another thing is getting back into routines... H works all day, so when he comes home he's basically "done" I guess you can say, so I'm not 100% sure I'll even have help. Right now I've got everything down pat with DS, I don't even need help with him. I just hope I can get back in the swing of things and be the same way with #2.
  • Personally I think 18-24 months apart is perfect!  Now 2 under 1 that is crazycakes:)

  • I can't speak for actually having 2 u 2. DS1 will be 22 months when this one arrives. There are things that I won't do as much with him as I used to, but that stuff always changes with time. DH and I thought about 2 years apart was good. #1 is slightly independent. He is great with babies at daycare. I think there will be struggles but that it will be great.

But heck! I think all parents are a little crazy. It's hard work, but I think it's worth it.

  • I don't think it's crazy. I was already well into my pregnancy by the time my 1st was 10 months old. My 2 are 13.5 months apart and I love it. Your DS will adjust to you not giving him all the attention. Babies always do. Adding a 2nd child will be hectic and crazy no matter the age difference IMO.

Is it hard, yes, but at what age gap wouldn't 2 be hard?

    Ditto this!

OP, I have a 5 month old, and we're trying for our second child already...It took us 5 months last time to get pregnant, so I'm thinking it will take at least that long to get pregnant again (just hoping for sooner rather than later), and having them 13 months apart wouldn't be a huge deal to me.

    Good luck!

  • I love it. I want another one, but we need to wait until next summer to TTC. It can be crazy at times, and to me, the hardest part is just getting out and doing things. With different naps, and just the logistics of where to put two young kids while doing/getting what I want, it can be a struggle. Aside from that, I love it all. They are starting to interact, and it is so fun just seeing the two of them play in the same room.

  • Dd1 and dd2 have a 25 month age gap, so not 2u2, but close. With dd2 it took us 7 months tc. If anything i wish they were a little closer in age. I think this age gap is great. There are hard days, but there were hard days with just one kid too. Mostly, i find myself loving them close in age and wonder how ppl with 3,4 or more year age gap make it work. With baby number 3 we are starting ttc this month. Dd2 is 6 months. GL!
